FedEx Freight | Union Vote

Back in the day when I worked for Disalvo Trucking, the local drivers, shop, dock workers, and line drivers were all different locals, but working under the master freight agreement. One small item you might have over looked is, Fedex Freight is nonunion, so your question is pointless.

Will shop guys and drivers all be in on the same contract?

Typically no. Shop guys have different working conditions than drivers. Also there are different issues and work rules to help with those issues. Most mechanics would fall under some machine shop. Drivers would need to seek out a transportation shop. Can it be done sure. Anythings possible. Except at FedEx freight. No union there.... EVER

That's cause they're all scared, don't have any stones.
Plus, I'm not sure the IBT is interested.

Interesting how the pro union folks always attack the manhood of those who don't believe in their organization....32 years this industry has been deregulated, and 32 years the IBT has run it's employers out of business, blaming "bad management". Why is it that only union companies hire bad management????

I would not claim 'ever'. If Obama gets re-elected and Obamacare does actually get implented you will see a plathera of LTL's go union, two reasons; 1. cardcheck will quickly become law of land within 2 years. 2. Obamacare will hasten nearly all LTL's to off-load the linehaul side of the company's and go with 'independent contractor's and O/O's to move loads now being done by company drivers. The LTL's may be willing to work with a union for the P&D side, but most will never let the linehaul side go union. IMHO

Dont know ups freight seems prety happy on the road side then again should they get bumped they can go city side with their senority what a *****

When I worked at Weir-Cove Local 92....shop and drivers were on a Different contract...NO matter how bad it is or can get I wil not vote for a union here.. You think you have a problem now. Wait till some brown nosing butt wipe of a union rep gets a complaint and has his own agenda. HA....POOF your toast baby:TR10driving03:Been there done that. MY opinion of the unions I've belonged to. They will back a non working, lazy so and so:crybaby: with everything they have. If you do your job , make someone that the rep adores look bad your NO GOOD.......I support helping the needy. I oppose funding the LAZY...:ShakeHandsNah:

Gee TP showing your age again!! you probably remember Cme too! The short time I was in the produce handeler's union in So Cal, just like critter said--they supported lazy cry babies and not the working ones. Eventhough we have some of the same going on here, I for one would not go union. Can't see paying dues for nothing--when YRC lost 15% what did hoffa and the union do? gave themselves a raise.. Today in my opinion, the union is just another job for fat cats, not really there for the working guy. Some industries I would agree need the representation, have seen aircraft manufacters abuse their people that were not union, where union shops would back their people, but there again, that was a different industry. Unfortunately here at FEDEX its just bad decisions by package folks that do not know about the trucking industry. Don't remember needing to to file a "Road Plan" to drive the highways of America like the flight crews need to file a "Flight Plan" with the FAA. Until they understand we handle crazy size freight, and not envelopes and small packages stuffed into "J"cans or LD-4 air freight containers, we will continue to operate like the "Express"side of the company. Hopefully Bill L. will wake up before its too late.

Not to cause waves Lazer, but I'm wondering with no o/o's now where would Fedex or anyone else for that matter find guy's to do this??? These contractors and o/o's are trying to get 3000 miles A week, how in the world would they all get that many miles with the ltl's?

Sure I remember CME, my father-in-law worked for them. I left Disalve in 1970 when they had the wildcat strike. Went to work for Victory Transportation. Right down the street was a company called Viking Delivery Service. I hooked up with them in 1977 in Los Alamitos.

I know everyone likes to get that 3000 per week, but if the industry turns they way I think it could, they won't have a choice. I have a sinking feeling many(not all) companies will go the route that Towne Air Freight took a few years back. Your co-worker today, may very well be your boss 3-4 years from now after you turn down an offer from your company to purchase a couple tractors and be on your own. That weasel below you on the board now will bite at the chance to make it big. If you want to keep driving, you will sign on with him(or her) because you current job is eliminated. Make no mistake, I'm not wishing this happens, just don't be shocked if it does.

I'll believe it when I see it. And don't claim you're not wishing it will happen...you're praying it happens.
