My wife has had a job offer on Long Island, NY. We are currently in Va and i have 7 years with Conway. Im not crazy at all about the idea of moving to NY....but sometimes change isn't such a bad thing in life. Can anyone give me any info about the terminal there and do they cover any area's of NYC? What is the SIC code there too? Any info would be great.

SIC is XIY.
XBY is Brooklyn and Queens, XFY covers Manhatten, XEM covers the bronx. So I doubt they do much of the city, that's about all I could tell you

A word of advice, stay away from the metro terminals unless you want to be an extraboarder starving for work. I know people who have worked at all the metro terminals and extraboard is getting 20-30 hrs a week of docktime. Hardly a run, and with winter coming forget it. Cost of living is insane out there, traffic, tolls, gas prices..

XBY lost a ton of zipcodes to XIY. I know one guy that works P&D out of that barn. Haven't talked to him in a while, but he was barely making it there. He was in an even worse position at XBY before he transferred. He went over as linehaul, got bumped and they gave him the scraps on P/D.

XFY- Not so sure about here, but I can almost guarantee conditions are the same or pretty close FOR extraboard guys.

XBY- Go here if you want to starve. No joke. Linehaul is non-existent there. 3-4 runs max nightly

XEM- Same deal here. You will starve. No two ways about it.

XMY- Does manhattan..took alot of freight from XBY and some from EM I think. They are a cartage company anyway

I know guys who work at all these terminals and many have quit recently or ready to jump ship.

Anything else you need to know just ask, and I'll try to answer to the best of my ability.

Ok, thanks for the info so far. I noticed that the Long island terminal (XIY) had a job posting for a driver just back in August, maybe for city. This is in the early stages, there is no guarentee that we are moving up there, just looking at options.

Is she going to commute to work ? If you guys decide to live in Jersey. There will be more work for you.

Im sure if we decided to move up there we would choose a home somewhere in central long island, didn't look like a lot to choose from with real estate though. Dumpy split level houses going for 350K, what a joke! She would commute to work, not from jersey, that would be way to long of a commute. Yea, i doubt this is actually going to happen now looking at everything!

As someone who has been there...stay the hell away from the 'city'...forget Jersey...Long Island...anything east of the GW.

Better yet...forget anything east of 287.

Unless you were born and raised in area you will regret any decision to move into these regions.

Trucking in this region is not for the faint of heart.

The cost of living is asinine...the pace of daily life is beyond comprehension for the mid-westerner.

Bottom line...STAY PUT!!!

PS...If you are set on the east cost perhaps MA, MD, DE, CT. or NH may be more to your liking, and the seafood is AWESOME!!!

Well, they offered my wife 170K but i don't think that any amount of money is worth being unhappy. Thanks for all the advice guys......but i think we have both decided that this wouldn't work for us! Our other option is Dallas, TX.........i might could do that, we will see later next year when her contract is up.

McKinney,Tx was rated #2 in Money magazines top 100 places to live in the US this year and wouldn't be too terribly far of a commute from either LDA or LFW or LGT.
