Yellow | cell phone ticket

i work for NP in NYC. i was pulled over for "allegedly" talking on my cell phone. Cop thought he had me and wrote me a ticket. got back to the yard, wrote up the ticket, pleaded not guilty and NP notified their law firm. their attorney contacted me and told me to meet her at the courthouse on the date of my hearing. Cop gave his statement first and swore i was on the phone. we entered into evidence NP's handheld computer and told the judge that i wasnt on my cell phone but rather i was holding the computer in my hand and checking the address of my next stop. needless to say, thanks to NP's lawyer, i beat it. you should've seen the look on that cop's face lol

I think it's ironic how I can play with my computer, yak on my CB, grovel for my Dunkin' Dognut doughnut holes rolling around on the floor but if it's my cell phone I try any of the above with I get ticketed.

Plus choking on your chicken or choking your chicken while you drive.

Get a better headset. I have none of those problems you describe other than occasionally dropping the head set.

His main problem is we both have two phones; a company phone and a personal one. Both of us seem invariably to call the one the other is synced to at the time. Almost scary how often it happens...

Suprised: Holding a computer in your hand is still distracted driving. Glad it worked...

I have a friend who drives for Vitran. Has his personal headset for personal cellphone. Vitran gets mad because he won't answer the NextTel, which needs held.

Here at my present company, we Road drivers can use Hands Free. Local gets written up and /or fired if they answer a call in our company truck- period! From time to time the local TM calls them and almost prays they don't answer! Some other companies are going to cameras in the trucks to ensure the driver doesn't hod ANYTHING- food, drink, phone, whatever. I'd have to retire; no way I can go 600 miles a day with Nothing! If the wheels are turning- I'm eating.....

600 miles is good for 2 large coffees and a couple bottles of water plus a meal. I pick at food I become the food LOL

OK, I'm sure I'll get bashed for this but here goes. Why the heck so so many of you feel the need to be in CONSTANT communication with everyone? What's wrong with just enjoying the day (or night) without the need to be on an electronic leash (that's exactly what it is) all the time? I carry a cell phone but it's turned off most of the time except when I choose to use it, not when someone else wants me to respond like a trained puppy. Sorry, but I just don't get it. We survived quite well over the years without all the constant communication.

Yea but the world moves on and I like being able to keep in contact with my family at any time. Has saved me from having minor problems turn into major ones.

I certainly respect your opinion, but I believe that in the long run people become less self-reliant and capable when they become accustomed to using "technology" all the time. Perfect example - people blindly following their GPS directions into a lake or on to RR tracks instead of using common sense.

I would say that there is room for argument for both sides under different circumstances. Last week I saw three teenage boys walking together. All three were engrossed in texting on their cell phones and I had to laugh. To me that would be a time when it was not necessary.

It's a sign of the times. Keep up or get out of the way.

Texting wasn't at all necessary until it became the fad it is now. How many people "text" when they can't even carry on a face-to-face conversation anymore.

How about the cashier that can't figure out how much change to give you for your purchase when the power goes out on the electronic register!

I utilize the new technology when I feel like it, but I do survive quite well without it also. Too many have begun to rely on it and can't function well without it - that's the problem as I see it.

A GPS is a tool. Like any tool, it needs to be used correctly. Reading road signs would be a great place to start the correct usage.

New Iphone4s uses Voice Recognition to text. Hands Free. Wonder how that works if DOT checks texting while logged on to driving? :regretful:

The production of too many useful things results in too many useless people.
