Yes that's right, building up the combo board more so they can send the men that are called shuttle drivers home trying to starve them out

Appreciate the well wishes, but I had a chance to go Combo many times and have chosen to stay right where I am, Combo's have daytime schedules to chose from, that would be nice but I'm content right where I sit.

exciting career opportunities!
Oh really? I have never found anything Averitt to be exciting.

Bring proof of your CDL-A and apply for a position
Why not just bring your actual CDL-A....you know, the one that you have in your back pocket at all times when you leave the house. Learn about our low mileage pay as compared to our competition's far superior pay. At Averitt we used to have hiring standards but since most good drivers know of our reputation of being a bottom feeder company, they stay away in droves forcing us to hire ex-cons and burger flippers and we gladly place them in brand new equipment to set out and destroy. Stop on by and get your Walmart gift card today since we have to entice you in some way or another.

What are the pay rates for a new driver? Do you have to apply in person?
Mike03, I'd run not walk, away from Averitt. You will be paid non-competitive wages and will not be happy with it. However, those that live in east Bugtussle think Averitt is the best thing since air ride suspensions but they are the stark minority. WHen you can live in a tent in the woods for peanuts you think you have died and gone to wherever it is where you go to make this sub-par wage. If you live in any kind of civilized or populated area you will find that there are companies that pay WAY more than Averitt does. They used to be competitive in their pay but those days are but a distant memory.

Mike03 everyone is different, I have been here for 24 years and my friend Lifer has been here along time too. I absolutely love my job and wouldn't dream of working anywhere else, but alot has changed in those years and an entry level driver might have it tough for a few years. Point being while Lifer appears miserable, he like myself have chosen to retire here, it's not a perfect place but show me a perfect place to work and it will cease in perfection the day I join.

1tt1, I wish he, Lifer, would transfer to the East Side aka "The Promised Land", maybe he would be happier ! I don't know though, we are kinda densely populated over here, he might have to make a few stops each night, unlike the vast Texas region. We have one schedule in Knx that runs 660 miles a day and hits three terminals !

I don't mind the job, I hate the BS that we are spoon fed (if you choose to eat it). I get good miles but like CM says, things have changed. Competitive pay was a stalwart of this company when I first came on board. We are currently running around 18%, in most cases, behind what our competition is as a shuttle position. Combo and truckload fares even worse.

I find that the best way for me to deal with this outfit is to have as little contact with people at the terminals as humanly possible. For example, when I arrive on the yard at night I proceed directly to my tractor and ready myself to make a run. If I am assigned a load, I hook to it, check it out do my paperwork, walk up on the dock to get my paperwork and speak maybe 2-4 words if that...."Good evening" and "See you tomorrow" or "Have a good night" and turn around, head for my truck, and depart asap. If I pull an empty, I make zero contact with anyone at the terminal. Qualcomm dispatch is all I need.

Yes we get good miles out this way and I am thankful for that. A short run can still render 500+ miles. A good run can be a 600+ turn. I guess I choose to not buy into all the hype and all the crap that this company shoots our way. Just because they say it does not make it so. We have been hearing about raises for how many months now? You are a number to me just like I am a number to them. No advancement and if you settle into a combo driver position ($0.045 per mile less) there you will stay forever. Your chances of making shuttle and getting the rightful $$ is doubtful.

Is it a job? Yeah, it's a job and beats the hell out of unemployment. Could it be MUCH better...By all means.

CM still loves me and knows I am right!

Yes Lifer I do, and I agree with you on staying away from the "yard" chatter. I am so out of the loop and I love it, like yourself I walk in, smile, and walk out.
