FedEx Freight | I did my insurance today...

Do you have any idea what ABF pays for Health benefits? You're blinded by the ANTI-union agenda and have closed your nugget to even give it a thought. I just said it was one issue that is discussed at the table. FXF made $162m last year and has already doubled the profits this quarter versus this time last year. Another issue is a raise of more than 2.2% or whatever we got. I'm not all gung-ho on unionizing but if FXF is just going to continue to raise our health benefits cost and continue with raises in the 2% range then perhaps it's time to take a look. Just read these posts and you can practically see the tears running down the faces of these guys/gals about the rising costs of things which in turn decreases their take home pay. Please enlighten us to this 32 year failure you speak of... WE are the employees, WE would be the union and WE would negotiate a contract. You have the misconception that 'THE UNION' is a third party that negotiates on our behalf.

Do you really think you can negotiate with FedEx and win? The 32 year failure is the trail of bankrupt union companies. Oh wait, that's "bad management", which for some reason only unionized companies have....As for the healthcare debate, be patient, Obamacare has no price controls built into it, unlike Canada and europe, where the healthcare providers are limited in what they can charge. So be prepared to be gouged to death with his blessing....

I'm currently on Long Term Disability. After 6 months the company virtually cans you and you have to go to the COBRA deal. I'm paying 800 bucks a month now "the full premium" until medicare kicks in 24 months and that's nothing to look forward to because then my wife won't be covered so we'll have to buy outside insurance for her then medicare only covers so much a year then it's all on you.
Not to mention your living on half the money. Can you say bankruptcy? Cause that's exactly where I'm headed in the next year. Cancer sucks! And so does our heathcare system!

Best Wishes to you Goat. Yes, our healthcare system sucks. I'm in the same boat as you, buying my healthcare trying to survive to Medicare, since Obamacare passed I've been getting hit with rate increases I can't keep up with. God help you if you ever have to deal with the farce of a mental health care system we have. It has become nothing more than a revolving door residency for substance abuse losers while those with real mental health issues are wandering the streets.

Yea I hear you. I'm sure the mental end is rough too. I have a friend that's dealing with that end of it also. God Bless you! We can only do as much as we can do...

Be careful with that stuff and always get a MOHS surgery done on the skin cancer to find out exactly what your dealing with. That's how mine started and jumped into my lungs and kidneys.

Typically Basil Cell, two arm surgeries and one nose/MOHS. At dermatologist every six months for check up...matter of fact need to call for another check next week...ugly stuff....I'm so white that when I wear brand new athletic socks people question why I don't wear socks because they can't tell where my legs end and my socks begin....

Yea I'm Scottish, Irish, English and Hi Dutch. Fair skinned and lived on the beach most of my life or in a boat. Had 3rd degree sunburn when I was in the 7th grade and missed a month of school. Fell asleep on the beach, we had a beach house in FLA. OUCH OUCH OUCH!!!

Watch that basil cell too. It won't kill ya but it sure can cause a lot of damage. Had to have a skin graft for one several yrs ago it came back and they had to take the whole graft out and do some plastic surgery. I think the chemo kicked it's but though.

Goat, I wish you well. Last year I was diagnosed with stomach cancer and went thru the short term and long term deal with the cobra insurance---it is most definetly an eye opening experience. Only by God's grace have I been healed and am back to work now. We never know what lies around the corner for us. Best of luck to you and your family with your treatments and finances---and yes, cancer sucks.

Our kids are all grown up and on their own so it's just the wife and myself. Got a flyer from FXF explaining health care benefits and it said something referring to same sex couples/unions and it dawned on me..... I have to pay out the ass so others can take it up the ass..... Doesn't seem fair :moon2:

I went on COBRA earlier this year and given how much I paid when I worked there, COBRA was a lot less then I expected.. Not cheap by any means, but a whole lot less than I could buy coverage on the open market for.. I only get the medical, the dental and optical are not worth it..

It is time for the company to step up and take better care of everyone working here. Hard work should promote better benefits.

I left FEDEX a little over a year and a half ago.The first shock I got at my new job was the high cost of benifits. At that time FEDEX was a bargain compared to what I was paying.
During the last open enrolment however, they brought the cost of the high plan for my wife and I down from 480 a month to 280.As you can imagine I was breathing a sigh of relief.

I think the health insurers and employers are preparing us for the reality of OBAMACARE.Where the hard working middle class foots the bill for the many (not all) that are not willing to make the sacrifices required to support themselves and there families.

Don't get me wrong.I am proud to live in a country that takes care of it's disabled, needy and justifiably poor. But as we all know there are way to many able bodied people taking advantage of a system that is poorly run and regulated.

Just saying...

Lost Boy

My only thought to the health insurers are the profits and golden bonuses involved.
