Hey Guys, I found this site while trying to get "intel" on what is going to be my new job starting very soon at the CGT (Chgo Hts, Il).
I won't lie I'm a bit nervous, I am hired as City Driver. Sounds like I'm going to almost hang up the truck keys for forklift keys.
Can anybody help calm my nerves? I do hope to move up to linehaul (Road Driver?) What might be the chances of a transfer to the new Romeoville terminal & moving up next year? Can I make over $65-$70K annually? How hard is it to move up? How long does it take to move up? I really am just looking to know what the future holds for me & my family...good and bad
Come on, Please help a brother out, guys :0

Been here for about a year myself. Let's just say that you should get comfortable with your toyota. I get out every so often and my center offers me dock work on the nights that I don't. If you don't have patience and a HIGH tolerance for a lot of BS your not gonna keep your sanity. Running from center to center will only keep you at the bottom of the list. Good luck driver.

If you can stand working shifts that do not occur when the sun is up, you can make ok $$ if they have kickouts at the end of the hub cycle.
Don't plan on a future in line haul, stay in the city.

What new Romeoville terminal??

If you google new fed ex terminal in Romeoville you should see what I mean. I don't think I misread it......The 238,000-square-foot center will be at 920 W. Taylor Road, and is scheduled to open in the fall of 2013.

Thanks Icecube, I appreciate the info

Linehaul at the bottom of the extraboard is a great place to be if you are independently wealthy and have lots of projects at home that need doing. Next we could talk about all the politics and drama and BS that occur every day in linehaul.

If you check into it a little further, I think you might be googling the new Fedex ground center they're building in Romeoville Il????

I could be wrong, it wouldn't be the first time?

All of you talk about just how bad Fedex is especially in linehaul.. just remember there is good and bad with every job, it's just nobody wants to talk about the good things online they just want to rant and vent about the bs parts of the job. The job is what you make of it and don't let people's opinions influence your attitude about the job! Congrats on the position! From what I hear things are slow at Fedex so if you just got hired you are blessed to have a job that pays you 19$ plus an hour.
