Yellow | Why Won't Hoffa Deal With It? IRB Hits Corruption In Local 120!

I thought he did deal with it.....Local 120 was closed today and notices posted on door....it has been put under trusteeship.....KK

I hope they all go away for a long time and the union can recoup its money.
stuff like this give the whole union a black eye.
You hear people all the time, and for some of us many different locals ,complaining about problems and at times do the right thing and try to expose these problems but most times their complaints fall on deaf ears.
then every1 wonders why teamster member just cant be bothered any more.
this stuff gets old and hoffa needs to step up .

Oh Please, he didn't do it until the IRB forced him to, just how it always goes. Hoffa couldn't sweep the dirt out of a closet. Then he cries about the cost of the IRB oversight. I am aware you are an active Teamster and were a B/A and all but you really don't have kiss the Hoffa ass.

The IRB did it's job and that's the way the Government has it set up . The Independent Review Board ( IRB ) job is to find corruption and racketeering . Under the rules draw up in 1989 between the teamsters and the government the President cannot just take over a local .

It does sound reasonable that the IBT Pres. cannot just take a local over and that should curb a little misbehavior. But are you saying that when there is corruption and misbehavior inside the Teamsters Organization that the issue has to pass through the IRB before action can be taken?

Yes the IRB is the government enforcer . Now saying that if they are given overwhelming info they can suspend someone pending a full investigation ( person is still paid in most case's ) but there was a lot of mistakes in the past from informants !!

I read the same story.I think it was handled correctly.I don't know why it had to happen for so long before the IRB intervened.I thought each local's accounting is being scrutinized

so it seems if you have a problem with your local.you may as well just put a complaint in with the IRB instead of wasting your time calling the local or the international .

lets see slawson didnt support hoffa anyone anyone 710 nepotism runs deep way overpaid supported hoffa maybe 710 should have the irb pay a visit cause they give a bigblack eye to the unioun with the nepotism

A "little misbehavior" ? Read all 139 pages of the money skimming and theft of members' funds including ALL of the strike fund and most all of the money recieved from other Locals treasuries taken over by the Slawsons and Local 120. The Teamster bar in Fargo was also used as the Slawsons' personal ATM, for them and family friends and family members. If you read ALL 139 pages of the ORIGINAL COPIES of the IRB report, you may have a different opinion. It is amazing they were so blatent and "in your face" stupid for so long. The members of Local 120 deserve better, much better, like it was before the Slawsons weaseled their way into Local 120 in the mid-1990's.

Read the ENTIRE 139 page original report, not just a news summary. It is an amazing report. It is amazing that the Slawsons' (3 of them), and several others in the local as well as friends and relatives, really thought they could steal that amount of money, from so many places, for their own use, and get away with it. I guess that is how greed works. Steal a little and get away with it, then more and more and more like a disease. Like I say, read the entire original report (not a summary prepared by a biased news organization or the IBT),complete with names, places, dates and dollar amounts. It is very thorough and maddening.
