XPO | Safety first

Hit the dock? But then you can't run long on Friday because you lack hours.
That's why most linehaul drivers won't log wait time nor hit the dock. Instead they do work related stuff on company property until their loads are ready. They do this every single night that their loads are not ready.
That's a problem. Thats an integrity issue. Logs are supposed to be accurate and true. That's a saftey issue as well. 14 hours day are really 16 hour days for most night guys, how long do you think you will last?
You can roll out all the training and all the programs you want but if you don't fix key issues like this one then guys will continue drifting off into the ditch. May not happen today or even this year but it will happen sooner or later. Just saying...

Probely another committe should be formed, study this very serious concern, think about it for a while, and after long consederation come up with a very sugar coated F/U!:hysterical:

Because they're chicken****! If we started holding ops feet to the fire things would change. As long as we put up with the status quo, they will walk all over us every time it suits them.
This is what I have been saying for a long time. Until the local management is held accountable for what time DSR's get to the reship, They will continue to show up at 3:30-4:00AM. How is this possible? Even on Mondays! It is always the same 3 service centers, every night. The company wants to save money? There's a big one right there. The service centers will shut down sooner, re-ships will shut down sooner. You won't have 15-20 guys waiting around for them to show up.

OPPS, I forgot, It is a battle between management and the DSR's. Not a battle with upper management and lower management. Management protects management. The only protection the employees get is when you use the anti Con-Way kool-aide gel in your a$$ before they ram it in you. Of course you have to provide that on your own.

I have had two new steer tires let go in the last year and half. One drive tire. And three trailer tires.. And if the company was so focused on safety as there number one concern. You would think they would do something about us working the fac for two or three hrs on a 500 plus mile run..

No, they can't force you to run over your 14, but if you run out somewhere and have to wait to be picked up, then what? How long are you going to have to wait for someone to get to you? When does your "break" really start, when your 14 is up or when you get home? If you have to wait 3 hours to get picked up and then get home, what, do you have to be back in 7? What's safe about that? Just because it's legal doesn't mean it's RIGHT. We should have the same rules FedX has, if your run is total over 450 miles, you don't work the dock. Period. And because they go over at the FAC isn't your problem. You should not be forced to run a via. Period. If they have another set of hooks ready going back, if you don't want the via then you get your hooks going home. Period. That's what top end flex board drivers are for, to run the vias out of the FAC when they go over.

To answer your question about when to come back to work. You bottom line all time until you are at your destination. You can bottome line 24 hours for example as long as you don't drive again within 10 hours of going off duty.

why bid a shorter run if he has the strap to maximize earning.

driving 400 miles and working the dock is just brutal. safety first

That's all fine..just don't complain about doing it, when you bid on it. (Not talking about you or anybody else on this fine Christmas Day), just about people in general..

for 8 months i never complained about my 580 mile run very seldom working the dock i just figured because of the miles.but now its 2hrs plus every time on the dock not even counting the via. i thought just the miles was plenty for me. i to come in and sometimes wait on my load for hour or better then run this trip i get there im already getting tired.not to mention no time for lunch. i use my 16 just about every week plus 13.50 -14 hrs every day. i say this because i dont think this is very safe believe me if i had knowned this was the norm i would not do this. drivers call each other all the time to talk just to stay awake. you people really know what goes on so try to be safe

The bright side is, pretty soon you can bid a shorter run.

Let us know what you pick.

Wow, some things are looked at to the extreme. I don't mind being at the re-ship so long. People are acting like I am complaining. I am not. Some things are taken too literal. My biggest problem is why does the reships happen to be open so long when guys come into the the reship at 3:30-4:00 when their service center arrival time is 1:00. Thats my problem, NOT that I bidded the run.

Sad to see such a important topic drifting away...
I wonder how many posts this year will read, "prayers go out to the family,he was a good man...RIP"
Just because we decided not to address the obvious safety issues so people can make a few more bucks... Keep on trucking!
