So, I go for my DOT Physical on friday. It seems under the new CSA rules, I am 5 foot 10, weigh 186 pounds, and not only am I overweight, i am obese, yes thats right I said obese!! Under the new CSA rules, and there is a chart, if your height and body weight does not match, you are overweight, and subject to any and all laws that apply to overweight drivers. Just to let you know, I walk 7 miles each and every day come rain or shine!!

sounds like with all these new changes for truck drivers the hourly pay needs to go up. The experienced drives that have drove for years are being forced out by all these changes witch makes you more valuable.

Went for mine this week and I think I now know what she meant when she mentioned you just made it ..but I think she goofed as she added two inches to my height as she measured me with my shoes on..

:fingure:

Not possible. The math for BMI is simple and based on what you have provided your BMI would be 26.69 which is mildly overweight. Overweight is classified as 25-29.9. Obese does not start until you hit 30. Also CSA has nothing to do with DOT physicals and the rules for being issued a physical card.

CSA is an enforcement program that measures carriers performance verse their peers. The process takes roadside enforcement data and assigns point values to those inspections. That information is then used to rank carriers on a scale of 1-100 in 7 categories called BASICS. Carriers in the top pcentile ranks in each BASIC are subject to enforcement action. You can find more information at this link

CSA - Compliance, Safety, Accountability

If you do a little research it is easy to find out what is going on. There are no rules concerning BMI and obesity. There may be rules in the future concerning sleep apnea that take your BMI into consideration, but they would not be a part of CSA, and as of right now there are no rules that use BMI.

tell that to the doctor that used my BMI and forced me to have a sleep apnea test done and now i'm out of work for two weeks waiting to become compliant.

They may has well be the rule. Tell me then what do you do if your doctor goes by these recommendations based on your bmi and only gives you a 90 card to get the sleep apnea test done or you don't drive? At that point it doesn't matter if its a rule or a recommendation, IT'S REALITY.

You got a 90 day card or you are placed out of service for 2 weeks waiting on the sleep apnea test result? Or did you wait 89 days to have the sleep test done?

No I got a 90 day card but it took that long to see my doctor to get a referal for a sleep doctor. Then you need to have a 1st sleep test done to see if you may have sleep apnea, then if you do you need to get an appointment for a second test with the machine to determine your settings. Then you need to arrange to get a machine, then you need to stay on the machine for awhile to show you ate compliant ..it just so happened I ran up against my 90 days..

Just what the trucking industry needs.......more damn rules and regulations on the drivers. They are worried about the health of the drivers, yet the companies keep the drivers on the road so long that they have no choice but to eat at the greasy spoons. Personally, I think that all of these newest rules and regulations from the last 10 years or so are just another money grab. The more rules they make, the more money the drivers have to put into their system. What a joke. I'm glad that I left that industry.

Yeah doc's weight charts are ridiculous off. If everyone went of their charts for weight everyone in America would be overweight. I've been a thick guy all my life. I have big legs was squatting 500lb at 17yrs old. I went to Marine Boot camp lost 60lbs. I was 155lb everyone said I look skinny and small cause I'm a short guy, flat stomach. Acordong to the civilian docs I was still 20lbs overweight but was under my weight for the Corps. But I could run 3 miles in 18min which at a PT test out of 100 Marines only 10 could do this. I just feel that these charts are gonna be way off I can weigh in between 165-190lb and would look in good shape, I hit the gym alot. But according to the charts I'm gonna pass out of a heart attack cause I'm considered obese. They need to measure body fat not go off weight people now days have more muscle and are built different. Those weight charts are from a long time ago.

don't ever tell them you snore or they will send you to take a sleep apnea test and if you get a c-pap machine you have to take your DOT Physical every year when you go in you have to take you print out from you machine

No disrespect to you sir. The chart that was shown to me by the attending nurse who was taking my weight and height showed that I was obese. I questioned her about this three different times, each time she referred back to the chart. And yes the new rules that are being enforced under the CSA, do have to due with your physical and you obtaining a medical card.

I just took my DOT Physical and nothing was said about my weight..I am a few pouds over....about 30 and nothing was said

I took my DOT physical less than a month ago and passed just fine. They didn't mention the Body Mass Index. But the doctor and assistant accused me of sitting on Truckingboards half of the day and accused me of washing down my scrambled eggs with beer. I denied both accusations because I don't think that they have any proof.
