I have been hearing rumors from several drivers at several terminals about OSHA closing down bunkrooms mostly because they have to be detached from the office/dock and be a certain distance away from any haz-mat. Does anyone have any info?

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA can I keep going? HA HA HA HA HA ..... Not in the Estes world . But then again maybe times are changing. Who knows?

Not detached but at least 300 yards away from the loading dock is the story I got a while ago. Something to do with all of this fmcsa stuff.

They shut down more than one for violating fire code. Last time I stayed in Houston, they had boxes and stuff EVERYWHERE. If the fire marshal had seen it, they'd have shut it down immediately.

Try staying in Charleston,SC. They stick you in a storage closet with the water heater,..heaven help you if that thing blows while you're in there.

I never have to stay in bunkrooms. My question is, why don't drivers that have to sleep in them make calls to the proper people? There has to be laws that give us the right to a comfortable, quiet and safe place to take our breaks.

contact the local fire dept. and let them know about the haz-mat issue near the bunkrooms. did that at new england motor freight when i worked there, never used that bunkhouse after that, always a motel.

because estes drivers have no bagonias! most cower down and say they are glad to have a job.

No... I just whip out that MasterCard and go to the motel... I'm going to write it off anyway... Regardless if Estes pays or you pay, you're still going to deduct it...

I'm the same as Stark, though I understand I shouldn't have to. Company should provide a safe and quiet place for us drivers to rest. Until that day comes ill keep sliding that visa card

I did when I got to New Haven back at that old Bunk House, told them I'm going to the hotel cause that is not made for a Rat to sleep in, and I never got charged a thing. And that is not the first time I have done that.

I had a bug try carrying my bag out the door at 45.I,ll never stay in that bunkroom anymore. That is a disgrace.Walls made of paper and the bugs made of steel...

Deduct all you want. You only get a small percentage back. I think you're missing the point anyway.

No, I know the point... But ain't gonna get the company to pay for it when it's not needed... Do I think they should, of course I do... But my comfort is more important than standing there arguing with idiots... I could be sleeping... Get my point?

i worked for an ltl company bout 16 years ago and the owner and top dogs staed where the drivers stayed . the owner actually stayed in bunkhouses. bet rob would never sleep where he put his drivers. just saying!

Exactly, what's the point in wasting time arguing w them when there's plenty of drivers who think bunkhouses are just fine and keep staying in them. I don't understand how some drivers have been here for decades and still stay in bunk rooms unless company pays for motel especially in places like 045,010,040,088(the old 1) to name a few.

What I'm saying is, that 70% is better than nothing at all... Which if we keep going with this administration in DC now, the IRS won't let you deduct any of it... So you might want to take advantage of it while you got it driva...
