FedEx Freight | Vacation Pay and Vacation time.

You can't think of this on an individual basis , you need to understand where the company is coming from. Depending on your terminal or location there are a million factors that lead to road staffing IE: time of year, weather , injuries just to name a few . This policy protects the center from running out of drivers during different times of year. Currently since its the slow time a lot of the road board can take CC days (company conscience) these allow you time off with or without pay to allow others on the extra board to work, coming from a center that has a good percentage of long runs out drivers arnt hurting for money so a day off never bothers them. That being said you can't just allow people off whenever they want its still a business were running with the intent of the company to make business not just you the individual .

Actually, I think part of the current problem with this company is that local management (mine, at least!) has ceased to give a moment's consideration to us "on an individual basis." We have about as much value to them as a congear or trailer out on the yard.
I'm betting you wear a red shirt to work (?). Wish you could explain some of the recent stupidity to all of us out here.

My ASCM regards that as cheating the system. Even if you take a company conscience day, sorry Freightboss, that one's here to stay. And oh, BTW, that's one of the better oxymorons that I've heard. Anyway, if you take an unpaid day off, it is extra vacation time that you have not earned and are not entitled to.

That is because your ASCM is an @ss.

If you take a company convenience day (not gonna buy into the 'company conscious day BS' as these mega corporations have no conscious when it comes to the rank and file) IT IS NOT EXTRA VACATION TIME!!!...PERIOD!!!

It is upaid time off elected by said employee so another can work.

Vacation time is paid by the company as a benefit.

If the freight is being moved in a timely and cost effective manner...on time...and the customers are being serviced as required...then what the hell does it matter to FedEx if I decide to miss a day and let another work?

The simple answer is this....IT DOESN'T MATTER!!!

This is control for the sake of control...or perhaps a jealously issue.

You are given an option...take the day or not. It is your call. Perhaps your ACSM doesn't have this option and may be envious of the fact it is offered to you.

It happens.

There is a little bit too much Henry Ford in such a mindset for my liking.

I know in our case we use CC days to get the lower Extra board work as well as reset enough drivers to cover the am board provided it was heavier the next day .

Didn't say I couldn't. Just the point. For the guys at the bottom where they may be cancelled 2 or 3 days a week they need to take that vacation pay during the times they dont really want to.

Also, like I said before during the summer months one can work extra on the dock to cover that 5th day of unpaid vacation.

if you get cancelled then you have the right to work the dock and bump full and part time dock workers to get your hours. I know what ur gonna say, it's cold on the dock or I dont want to work on the dock. Me either but dock hours are better than NO hours. You can also use personal time to cover these cancelled runs. My dispatcher asks me if I want vac. or sick time for days missed. and if i am really sick i only miss if i'm puking or its sliding out the backside.

That sounds really good about (choice) and (the right), however, Fredex doesn't use that rule anymore. That's just one of the rules they decided to change without telling anybody???

You must work for a different division of FredEx. At RC's location, part time dock takes precedence over all others including full time drivers that are not being worked. Even if dock is part of your bid, you will be sent home early while the part timers are still working.

Yea IND started that in 2008. Drivers and full time dock guys were getting laid off while they were hiring part time dock. 6 months prior to that all drivers were taken into the managers office with HR and were told what was going on and that they would do everything they could to keep us working.

Funny how this thread has gone...just sent my Viking safe driving ring off to be repaired under warranty. Free replacement of the stone becuase it cracked.
