Does anybody think it is interesting that TransForce purchased Velocity Express just prior to purchasing nearly 11% of Vitran? Do any of you know much about Velocity Express?
 
i used to run into a driver here and there. can't say much, just what their website says. sounds like another Canadian company who wants to play in the US trucking market, eh?

I find that very interesting. from what I have read on the transforce website transforce buys companies and lets them keep their identity. What they seem to do is use their knowledge and experience to make the companies more profitable.

By just looking at a map of the Velocity terminals they have a similar, not exact, lay out as Vitran, but maybe more density in the western states that have a sparse population.
 
I know. Kinda weird, in that the similarities are kinda striking. I wish my crystal ball could tell me what will be revealed on the 20th and beyond. Like everything else around here, it too has caught the Vitran Virus and decided to quit working!
 
i have been reading up on them. largest LTL company in Canada (if you join together their different companies) investments in oil, coal, solid waste, energy production, transportation (LTL, TL, Brokerage, and Logistics) if the numbers are correct, they could actually buy Vitran for CASH!!!

every company needs a tax write off. lol.
 
or, it could just be an investment too. it is not that unusual for a successful investment company to buy up downgraded stock, others see them buying, join in, price rises, then originator sells out for a nice profit.

aka the movie Wall Street

gordon gecko would'nt even touch this. and here we go with another airline, chris loves airlines. he thinks were an airline. lol.
 
like i mentioned before, i think it was an investment ploy on their part, just like the movie wall street. big name gets on board, stock goes up, he sells out and pockets difference, same thing happens 10,000 times a day. when your dealing with tens of millions in stocks, even a 10 cent increase spells a drastic change in your profit margain

Think you may be correct not_wanted. Velocity Express sold about 30% of their stock in Vitran. They may have been made aware by RG of the sale of the SCO which they believed would cause shares to spike with they did a few weeks ago. Now our stock price is starting to drop again.

I would have my serious doubts. That is insider trading and I would hope RG is not that stupid.

i would be more afraid of insider trading than anything else in their shoes, but, it does go on, and no one could convince me otherwise. stick boys are just like a good lawyer, you learn how to talk without saying anything, and it is not always what you say, but how you phrase it.
