XPO | signs in the yard

All I know is it wasn't that long ago that I used to work a lot harder, made many more stops through out the day, and moved a lot more freight on the dock. Used to be about moving freight. Now it seems that there is only so much time in the day and a lot of time is spent NOT actually moving the freight but looking at it, measuring it, touching it, loving it! :) Oh and we also now have twice as many people at our sc than ever before and looking to hire more all the time! Easy money!!!! The question is for how long?

What are all these extra people for and do they use them on the dock or the city ?

Ok here is my 2 cents worth I just spent 3 hrs watching videos and slides on the right way to load a trailer guess what guys the way they showed me how to do it is the same way that I have been doing it from day one and I have been talked to buy 3 or more supervisors that I was taking to long. Well guess what most of the trailers that I have loaded in my Con-Way time I don't think that I have very seldom have over loaded any after the hand held were rolled out. As for cube I have max on my cube it is nothing new to me I will just fine tune a few things that I have been doing.
I just wish that some of the other DSR would think before they load I have had some trailer that I have unloaded on inbound this yr that looked like someone stood at the back of the trailer and pushed it in why can't we just do a good job and load it like you are going to unload it.

Nothing better than spending 20 minutes trying to load 2 skids of barrels. Gotta get the dunnage all the way around and strap them to the wall. Just so. Drop the decks down for the next guy.

In the day we would just throw a board on top. Them are great stacker freight. Not any more.

A part timer with no benefits don't give a crap if this freight is easy to unload! If anything, they want it to look like junk on the other end out of spite. And that goes for some dsrs too. Here's my take : space=waste=damage=claims!

I don't think I saw that sign up in the break room anywheres . Maybe in the toilet.

New Conway sign I read today: Jamaican Mustangs Damage Control Team Info Center. "Do not mess with the Jamaican Mustangs"!

Who are the Jamaican Mustangs? The sign has two horses in Green, Yellow and Red with a black background at the top. From what I know about Jamaica those are not the Jamaican colors, unless you are referring to Rastafarians who originated from Jamaica, but Green, Yellow (gold) and Red is Ethiopia colors. The Mustang horse is know for thriving in the wild, known for their speed and come from the America's.

I don't get the sign how it relates to trucking or damage control. Must mean something totally different then the colors and the horse that I am familiar with.
Maybe when it is hung it will be explained. Anyone else seen this sign? Are the Jamaican Mustangs a club, team or something on that line?

The worst thing about all of this is I used to build daylane pures. Now the freight is all mixed up. West and north freight mixed up in the trailer that should of been direct lanes. Don't these dumb a$$'s realize all of the extra labor they are creating? Oh yea, this is Con-Way! A new Core Value. "We step over a dollar to pick up a dime"

But lean is giving us the profits..... that's what they said. Reduced accidents and exceptions are the difference between making and losing money.

The freight business is not rocket science, pick up the freight, haul it from point a to point b and deliver it, I thought we were going back to the basics. If they'd stop thinking about this so damn hard and get out of the way and let us do our jobs and I don't know give us more incentive to do the bare minimum to not get fired, the profits would be there and I bet more of us would give a damn about what we are doing!

We loaded nna proper freight to nkx to fill trailers so it could be hauled twice as far to get to its destination. The better solution would be to divert to nat and only waste 37 miles. Remember space isn't the only thing that=waste!!

The biggest problem I see is that they hire collage grads that don't know anything about trucking. You would think that it is common sense to go to point A to point B. Oops, I forgot one of my rules. Con-Way and common sense cannot be in the same thought. I still like their new core value.

I wonder how much money each location has spent thus far on LEAN related projects, materials, employee pay plus overtime (and failed/incomplete projects) versus the actual ROI to date...I think we would all be surprised at the results...not including the palaces inflated numbers or dog and pony stats...just my opinion...but I would love to see some true figures...
