Hearing of our pay raise, which I appreciate, I have to wonder what the thought of others are about AE starting new hires, not transferees, at the topped out pay rate (city/combo)? Few can come in and do the same job as the 25-30+year guys, and what message does it send to those who have 20 or 30+years when a new guy/lady can come in off the street at the same pay rate. I've watched new hires come in, same pay rate, go home after 8 hours, not get the tough routes such as liftgate routes, not get sent to the less desirable areas after dark, not get the physically demanding work, they get the easy routes while a 20 plus year guy gets the crappy stuff, even AFTER being here a while. It kinda goes back to what's easiest for the dispatcher to get the job done, the one who complains the least wins. What if the newby is a lady, does that change things?
This is a debate forum, so thoughts?

I wouldn't go that far but since AE is proud of their over 20 team, as they should be, I'd like to see those guys rewarded with a little extra than the guy that hired in yesterday. Let's give them an extra week of vacation, an extra dollar an hour for every 5 year increment over 20 years, that's a small reward for a guy who's got that many years in, if he's been here 20 plus chances are he's not going to leave and start over anywhere else.

Pay for experience, we get what we pay for, bring them in topped out if they are an experienced driver.

"the one who complains the least wins" I like that, my life motto. I've had great results from practicing this attitude. Straight from the Word of God, read below in my signature.

Well our top out is less than what other freight company's start there drivers out.
From what I understand....(I could be WRONG)....NEW HIRE T/L drivers north of the OHIO river start out at .425 per mile....exactly what I'm making now after 9 years in T/L down south.

I think after 90 days new hires should be topped out. and get full benefits. We all should be making over 50 cents a mile..My god this is 2013. TL, SHUTTLE ..

The only thing they are proud of is a terminal manager standing there in front of a plaque and the fake shaking of the employees hand so he can add a notch to his plaque and hopefully get his mug shot in the Pravda rag.

Phillipians 2:14-15 Do all things without grumbling or questioning, 15 that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world.

In other words question nothing and let your precious company take full and complete advantage as you waltz through life as a complete lemming and say nothing. Not this ol boy.

From what I hear that drivers in both CHI and NIL get a paid lunch hour so as to hopefully keep out union activity in a union town. There's your fairness.

I remember going to orientation in 1989 and listened to how great Averitt is and how were we growing, now 24 years later I still agree, not only of what they said but of my work experience with them proves that statement to be true. I guess my love for the coolaide has morphed into my love for the Red Velvet cake ! I think that comes from reaching my goal, from freezing my butt off on the dock, to getting soaking wet in the yard truck, the stress of dispatch, then to downtown Knoxville deliveries, and finally the easy money of Shuttle! God is good and Averitt rewards hard work.

I want a raise and an extra vacation,,I don't think that's asking to much..I want to make at least 53 cents a mile..we all should make 53 cents. TL also.

Contrare, Shuttle is bar nun the graviest, easiest money at Averitt. I'm amazed that I can 1358.00 a week, sitting in a super comfty truck and never touching a piece of freight, no one standing over my shoulder, constant Ipod entertainment, good phone chats with friends, yes very, very easy money. Redvolvo, if you expect and long for that kind of pay and vacation, you must apply elsewhere, it ain't gonna happen here. That's the blunt fact, there are so many higher paying companies out there for you to constantly let this mess with your mind. So many guys like yourself have had enough and bailed and found extreme happiness at other companies, sometimes the grass is greener. Alot of places start at more than we make, so what have you got to lose? We spend too many hours behind the wheel at Averitt to be miserable, it's not fair to you and your family.
