Just took a look at the new bids for the following week. We have to bid on it by Friday to start it on Monday.

There are 14, 8 hour bids 5 days a week. There are also 15, 4/10 hour bids. Terminal manager said if they only have work for 25 routes that day, they will be cutting the last 4 on the 8 hour bids in order for all the 4/10 bids to work.

Lets say the guy on the 5/8 bid has 5 years with the company and the other guy on the 4/10 bid was a dock worker who just became a city driver, he will not be cut but the one with more seniority will because he took the 5/8 bid. That does not sound right...

Confused and everyone is not sure what bid to take...we all need to work but it seems like if you want to work the 5 days you might pay of the price of not working every day and be on call to drive the line at night which probably will not happen but your day is wasted. You don't know whether to sleep or not.

What a way to run a terminal....and all this started with a new TM.....makes you wonder if they really know what they are doing with the schedule...are all the terminals doing the same thing?

WOW why dont you or one of the other sheep call HR and ask before you flip out? Maybe, just maybe they will tell u thats not right and call your TM and straighten them out. Dont just sit there hating life when you may be able to change it.

Not much different than a senior guy bidding the last line schedule to a given point. If a run to that point gets cut, it is the last position that gets cut irregardless of seniority. At least you have been told how it will work. If you bid that 5 day week hoping to get some OT and it jumps up and bites you, there really isn't anyone to blame but yourself.

Kinda' what I was thinking. That's the way it was when I was there. It bugged me when lower guys on crappier runs were pulled off and ran better runs to cover the extra, but that's the way it was.

If you know there's a chance of canceling before the bid, bid accordingly. At least they're telling you ahead of time.

Jump over to the road board where it's always sunshine, lolliepops and rainbows. Your life will be so much better.

My barn is doing the same thing... started it last year, in fact. I think the company as a whole is moving toward "4 10's" (read: 4 9's!) as a way to force everyone below 40 hours. Just another of the many measures Fredex is taking to cut costs. We have senior drivers who have been running 50-plus hours a week for many years, suddenly reduced to 36. It's the company's prerogative but in my opinion it's stupid. Half of the city drivers at my center are actively looking for other employment. Eventually this mess will reach critical mass, driver turnover will go through the roof, and someone at a desk somewhere will say "oops, how did this happen?" :)

The pain finally comes to visit the p&d drivers. Welcome to the hell the Road drivers have been living for the last few years. If the world was fair they would just tell you to quit whining and point out how good they have it. Seriously, it's inevitable. It's a way to "not cut your pay" but you'll sure make less.

A couple of words from Arnold LMAO
Stop Whining - YouTube

Spoken like someone who wears a red shirt to work.... who hasn't seen his income reduced one cent by any of this. Assuming things continue on this path, some of our senior drivers will see their annual incomes reduced by well over 10k a year. That's a pretty big hit.
Having said that: It is indeed the company's prerogative to reduce costs as it sees fit. Those who can't take the reduction in earnings will go elsewhere. I'm working on it, and so are roughly half of my fellow drivers at my barn. I predict that Fedex Freight will be seeing a significant drop in market share as their quality of service erodes and freight is given to other smarter operations who haven't forsaken customer service in the pursuit of Numbers. :)

Your man in charge there. Doesn't matter as long as he getting it done there. If you feel otherwise then Human resources is the answer, NOT TRUCKING BOARDS!!!

ACTIVELY LOOKING, BIG DEAL! For every one driver that leaves there 5 who want your spot and will do what they are told.... When is overtime ever been Promised to anyone!. Had a city guy in our barn make 80 grand last year and he doesnt run any extra road. That will stop too

The thing is he is not getting it done....we have tried HR and they just say they will get back to you but that was 3 weeks ago and nothing has been done. It's not overtime that everyone wants, we just want everyone to work and not have to sit all day for a call to work whether dock or line driving.

One line of original post says it all. "New TM".

Unless you run out of a top of the line, crown jewel of a center your's is probably little more than a step up the ladder for up and coming management wannabe's. Our's is a smaller hub operation. Maybe the third step up the ladder to succes s for managers. Lost count how many managers have worked their way through here. On average they stay here average of two years then on up the ladder.

They come from smaller end of the line day time operations. Single digit doors. Handful of drivers. Maybe 2-3 county area of operation.

Here. Double to triple the employees. 24 hour operation. Double to triple the service area. They're not ready. Instead of trying to adjust to the larger operation. They try to adjust the operation to their abilities. 8 hour bids worked at the smaller centers. They think they will work in larger operation. Every manager who has come through here has eliminated 10 hour bids for more 8 hour bids. Service goes down. Overtime goes up. Morale goes down. Drivers calling of work goes up. Lasts about a year.

Eventually the manager learns. Tweaks and tunes the bids. Puts back the lost 10 hour bids. Morale goes up. Numbers improve............Manager moves on to next step up ladder and we get another rookie........

On the bright side. You'll be here long after the manager is gone. Half the managers who went through here aren't even with the company anymore.
