Central Transport | working at central

A lot of What happens here will depend on your TM. A good TM can usually get a lot done that would otherwise be ignored, such as repairs to faulty equipment.

It isn't perfect, but it's getting better. There are worse places to be. You couldn't pay me enough to go to Vitran or Fedex locally.

Its out of character to say this on here, I know, but CT has been alright to me.

LMAO!!!! Couldn't pay you enough to work at FedEx???? That's hilarious. People who get fired from Central get jobs at Vitran so whatever. The best that is is a vertical move. Perhaps you could enlighten us as to why FedEx has almost no driver turnover while CT is always hiring. Oh, it must be because FedEx is such a crappy job. I know numerous people who used to work at Central and took the first next job available. The only guy I know who still work there has been there 5 years and is almost at the top of the seniority board. CT is always "getting better" and it seems to still be the same as it ever was. I'm not mad atcha. Some people seem to always be unhappy anywhere. I'm glad you've taken to making lemonade from all those lemons. I hope that you safely endure the unsafe equipment and working conditions and your pension and 401K bring you into your golden years happy and financially secure.

Fedex by me barely pays any more, has equipment That's just as bad, treats the drivers like dirt, and the bottom 4 or 5 guys are lucky to pull a consistent 20 hours.

Why would I give up my vacation and start over for that? They've got a revolving door here.

Maybe I got lucky with CT. I'm not saying they're great, but they've at least been consistent. I've dealt with some dumb things, but not as many as some would lead you to believe. Truth is, LTL is cut throat, and all the carriers think drivers are the biggest waste of resources.

And yes, 401k is safe. ;)

I'm sorry man. I was just busting your chops. I seriously am glad you're happy there. I worked there for 3 years and they were consistent and I was not particularly unhappy... at first. I ran every night on the road taking home about $1000/week and, when I transferred to the city, worked 50 hours every week even at the heart of the recession. As far as letting you work, you're right. There are so many problems there and when answering the question of what it's like to work there, there are too many problems to mention. For me personally, if they hadn't kept messing with my pay, screwing me around on vacation time, had a reasonable insurance plan, invested in the retirement plans of the drivers, offered a pay raise (before I turned in my 2 weeks notice), or even fixed the air conditioning in the truck... but they were as consistent on that as anything else. It is a cutthroat marketplace. Working at CT is not one of the better options (in my area) is all that I'm saying. Perhaps it is where you are.

I don't think you are talking about the same CT as everyone else. I was there for 3 years, never got a single raise because of the freeze and the benefits?!?!?! god lord I'm getting pissed all over again lol. I work at Estes now and I love it. Finally a job I can take pride in.

This has nothing to do with the posts, but I had to comment on your picture. I used to drive a CL9000 cab over ford with air ride on the front and back and air bags on the cab. That thing would bob and weave like a ship on the ocean. Brings back good and bad memories.
