Can anyone tell me why the on call system has changed?? I have been here for 5 years,I paid my dues in the past when I first startes, working 2 to 3 days a week during the slow season..But now say the bottom 4 guys are on call today,and they dont work today so tomrrow they work and the next 4 up on the list dont and so on all the way to the top!! WTF??? I guess time of service is ONLY GOOD FOR vacation time. I just dont understand why every driver on the city board must have a day off,from the guys with less than a year all the way up to our top guy with 10 plus years..Once again all the ass bustin we have done,Time of service DONT MEAN **** in the city!!!

They try no to starve anyone. We have had 25+ years rotating. They do the same on the road. They don't want anyone sitting at home more than 24 hours. I guess things are still slow. I thought it was picking up. I seen the regular gas nearly $4 yesterday. That's when all of this craziness started before. Hopefully it won't get as bad as it did 5 years ago. Barack will take care of us if we hit rock bottom. He will just keep breaking it off in the rich folks and trickle it down to us poor folks. He'll keep spreading money to all the folks that don't want to work also. Minimum wage will be $10 an hour soon. We can moonlight at the local grocery store that's been struggling to stay afloat for the past 10 years and make ends meet. Those democrats have things under control. It's rocket science. Welcome to the boards btw.
 
What can I say....... Because I am a full fledged Road Driver, or is that Linehaul, or Hub, or Utility. With well just over 12 years now and been getting screwed over for the last 5 years. Where the hell is that Genie tellin me what the hell is gonna happen here in the next 5 years so I know what to do.

The next 5 years ???? Honestly I don't see Estes being here in 5 years , we are losing accounts left and right !!!!! Prices too high , service not good anymore !!!! That's what us city guys here from our customers !!!!
 
I hear that driver,customers are pissed!! So I had my on call day off yesterday,Now most of our city board is on call tomorrow because line haul is not running tonight because of the F N snow storm!! Gotta love a 3 day pay check!! Does any one have some cash they can loan me?? LOL At one point I thought this was a good place to work,and enjoyed my job...then I woke up!!
 
Ya I have run up into Michigan, a couple of weeks this month in Heavy Lake Affect snow, and now they cancel us, shut us down for this little 3 to 5 inch snowfall, what the hell is wrong with this place these days, not to mention I was empty one of those nights, tonight I called would have have been loaded with freight, so what the hell let me get out there and run.
I will go back 6 years when we use to run alot of freight over a 1000 miles in two days now we get it there in three days, while we are sitting home, Holland, Fed Ex, Old D, etc are out there running with freight and gettin ur done!! Who the hell is running this place into the ground!
 
I'm going on 9 years and its always been that way at our terminal. We've very seldom had to go to that extreme, we usually have enough guys volunteer to take a day or two. It always seems to work out, like now we have two guys off on short term disability. Our TM has always run a lean force in the city, we are busting ass to get it done when we're busy but we're not over staffed come slow time.
 
I find it odd that your reply to his on call system question somehow turned into an attack on Obama. I'm not an Obama fan but that was a stretch.

Our city operation hired 4 new drivers right before the slow period , and to boot we are losing customers left and right , now we have too many drivers !!!!!

Relax, I posted something like 2am I think. I was probably just finishing up on some untaxed liquor. Unfortunately I work everyday. None of this stuff pertains to me. I saw a memo a while back and it said to be patient. No one is to sit at home for more than 24 hours. I was thinking freight was booming until I logged on here. I have no clue what's going on anymore. I think I was watching CNN when I posted.
 
I thought 24 hours off was a good thing and anything extra was a bonus. I must be living in a different world. It takes lots of seniority at our barn to get a day off through the week.
