ADuiePyle | Really!?!?!

Maybe you should have pulled him over, and reminded him of this oversight. Were your red n blue lights not functioning?

R U sure? Our guys that run 2X48's are pretty steady on those runs, can't see them making that mistake...

Doubt it was a mistake, he probably knew what he was doing, and it was wrong. Alot of people didn't know this, but years ago, GOD trucking was pulling double 33 ft pups, here on the east coast, and getting away with it and the drivers knew they were illegal. Some drivers were threatened to lose their job if they didn't follow instructions and were too intimitated to speak up, that goes on at most crappy companies.

Yea I'm sure. It had the 53' decal on the side. Either way he didn't get caught. He was a mile from the tandem yard when he passed me. I've heard of some drivers putting a cover over the 53' dacal and running like that lol. And no shroomhauler my red and blue's where not working. It wasn't an oversight either. You have to wait 5 years to get your thruway doubles permit in NY. I'm pretty sure in those 5 years the driver was made aware of the difference in a 53 and a 48.

we know the rules, if its true somebody just screwed up. To get the permit you have have been driving for at least 5 years and have the doubles endorsment for at least 6 months.

Once a driver gets the permit he can drive thruway doubles immediately..There is no six month waiting period.. Redstar linehaul dispatch had on more than one time tried to get someone to pull a 53 ft on the tail..Best was when they would dispatch you to a compound with a 53 and then tell you to hook a 45 to the tail..

How would that work? I've never seen a 53 with a pintle.

I meant you had to have the endorsement on your license for 6 months, not the LCV permit.

There are many companies that have 53 ft's with a hook. They are not legal for a tandem operation on the .NYS thruway..What our higher ups in Central would do is dispatch you to a compound on the thruway, sometimes to pick up a set and leave the long box there,so one would never know..On occasion they would neglect to see what trailer that you were dispatched with and sometimes try to get you to hook a set with the 53' ..This was mostly after the original guys in central was forced out at Redstar and most of them went to work at Pyle thus this when you guys started running doubles..At least these guys knew how to run a double operation.. What we were left with didn't have a clue..But that is all history now,,

I don't understand what your six month endorsement on your license means unless it is a company policy..The day I got my endorsement is the day I got qualified and was running them to the day I got off the road and went back into the city..

This tail was marked 53'? If it truely was, what a dope. We don't authorize our drivers to do this. Can't believe he made a mistake like this. p.s. Been away for awhile that's why I'm late with this reply.
