What a fustercluck last night was..About 20 drivers trying to hook at the same time.. just terrible. Driver was probably trying to snake the set around the lollergag at the gate..Over the back box went...about 45 degrees..Took all three yard hostlers with pups to try to get it upright..Felt bad for the guy as the entire FAC cme out to watch the debacle..From the looks of it, might have been some top heavy freight.. Really good guy, I hope he gets to keep his job.

Driver turned turned too sharp too soon from hooking and tweaked the trlrs you can see two trlrs in the last pic used to block it from going all the way over

so, from the pictures he didn't roll it he pinched it and tried to continue moving forward

No roll, just applied the brakes in a sharp turn. If the pintlehook clamp is engaged, (as when the brakes are applied), this will happen. I found that out a few years ago with an empty set.

He's good... Probably feels stupid for it. That's punishment enough in this place... People have to stop rushing.

Pintle hook clamp engages when the parking brakes are released.

No it doesn't, if it did you would never be able to hook the set because the clamp would be engaged. The clamp only works when the trailer brakes are released, (red dash valve), and the brake pedal is depressed. The clamp helps to hold the dolly from trying to turn in a hard braking situation, preventing the drag trailer from trying to pass the lead and turning over. While the set is in motion going down the road the clamp is disengaged.

when you hook the set, the clamp engages when the air is turned on to the back trl. and brakes released

I believe what you are referring to is the slack being taken out of the clamp. The converter dolly "eye" is still free to move in the pintlehook until the brakes are applied. The harder the brakes are applied, the harder the clamp grabs the pintlehook.

The clamp as you guys have called it, we call it the snubber here, is energized by the supply side of the air brake system. A tee fitting within the red side supplies air to the brake chamber that sits in the nose of the con-gear. At no time is there any influence from the service (blue) side on the clamp.

Better go back to driving that milkwagon. Jack Knife and even Merdock are with me on this one.
