I don't know what is going on at 653 (Charlotte) but the last three weeks, freight has slowed to a trickle. We started a new bid and the company compacted the dock layout, . There are now 35 empty doors at the end of the dock.

Just wondering if levels at other break bulks are down or are we having freight shipped around us? DS

Was on Pa. Turnpike Sunday the 21st and saw lots of bobtails between Pittsburgh and Breezewood going west.....good news saw fair amounts of loads west to east on Tuesday. Sunday , probably only saw 1/3 of LTL carriers that normally see..

Thanks for the replies. It just concerns me to see one of the top break bulks in the YRC system as slow as we are. It's not unusual for the company to load freight around a terminal and that's what I was searching for.

Most of YRC's freight that moves through the north and south corridor comes through us and it just slowed to a trickle. The current dock layout at 653 is a joke and the dock supervisors know it but it seems they go with it trying to make it work rather than tell the TM the truth.

Oh, by the way we have over 160 laid off on the dock and we started training casuals last night. Give me a break! DS

And you are allowing the casuals, why?

621 St.Louis is busy overtime every day.I know it sounds crazy but all of the barns loosing in this change are getting most of the work??? 211,241,621 Holland in St.Louis is busy too!

Hey yrc-atm, our local supplement doesn't prevent the company to train casuals, even with men laid off. The manpower is available but the company chooses to waste money to train new people. Once the laid off men know about the casuals, they will start working more. I suggested a common sense measure to get the laid off guys in when they need them but they (YRC) chose this route. I've seen this same scenario before but the company chooses to go down the same old road. DS

Hey fr8man, we are a small gainer of 3 dock guys, on the current COO, but like i said our freight slowed dramatically the last two weeks. I don't think it's economical, I think the company is running freight around 653. DS

Sorry to hear that. If they even let a casual in the building with guys laid off, we would have a riot and the company knows this

Hey yrc-atm, Our local supplement does not address the training of casuals, even with men laid off. We do have a local agreement of how it is to be done. I proposed a idea of how to get more of our laid off guys in when the company needs them but they (YRC) chose to pay the price to train new people. If you work for YRC, common sense isn't a part of the process. DS

At 309 we have no city freight, lots of cc,not much o.t,seems slow

Our TM had a meeting about the COO on Thursday and told us that we (309) have been handling more freight than ever the past 3 or 4 weeks?????????? Turnaround went from 28 hours to 14 hours, in gate and gone.

We see no OT other than Saturday and Sunday, the rest of the week is dead after 12PM until 4AM then it gets real busy (100's) of dockmen then nothing.

We are all just going through the freight faster.

How many trailers are you seeing with big multi bill headers? That's the way you move more freight with less guys! You don't have to strip the whole load. We got a new dock layout also at 135 with empty doors at one end. We're a +18 on the dock. I don't think 18 guys will come here though unless they have 25 years or more. You'll be on the call board. And then after the COO they will probably layoff 50 with their streamlining of freight. Less handling of freight equals less men you need to move it.

We see quite a few loads everyday, where you pull off 1 or 2 time critical bills, add a couple more bills and it is a LTG.

As far as layoffs we still have about 120 (some going on 5 years) or so, and they keep saying they want to recall all of them, see who and how many come back and then they will start hiring 4 hour casuals.
