FedEx Freight | 346 positions affected. Post the details from your barn here.

IMO, FEDEX has always wanted to send long distance freight on outside carriers, and make all road drivers shuttle drivers with dock work. They have always had a bad taste in their mouths that a 500+ mile road driver makes more moolah than the managers at HRO.

I heard most of the runs cut @ IND were Terra Haute. Luckily we didn't lose anything at my barn

That makes no sense. How would IND loose TER runs? We don't even run there they run to IND.

I think TER lost 20 something but don't remember what I heard.(To many pain pills)

Ill be 2nd from the bottom of the road board which is where I started out when I came over to the road. Its a good thing I don't want to come back. Im going on short term disability then having surgery and cashing my separation from the company check. I sure as heck am not going to start over again here.

You dont want to go to LOU. they loose runs everytime they bid, unless you have over twenty years in you can plan on working the extra board which never gets out or a shuttle run that gets cancelled everynight.

I totally agree, this company is no longer a driver friendly company. They always brag about being the most profitable with the best service. Yet we are some of the lowest paid in the industry and we are always looking over our backs wondering if we're going to have a job. This C.O.P. is nothing more than cover up for whats really happening and thats more P.T. and rail. There are centers where drivers can follow the freight but they are loosing runs in the lane where the freight is going to be running. They say they want to use company drivers but they are laying off over 300 while the PT keep rolling. Im not a union person but they have my vote just so I can say f@#$ you FEF! One more thing the raise will be a joke and you'll loose it when they raise healthcare premiums.

I said it once before, We are now using pretty much the same model as Watkins--use PT and rail as much as possible and keep a few company line drivers for the most important freight. Out here at our barn, we had a driver who ran for Interstate Dist Co. and he ran mostly Watkins freight on a daily basis. He said he sees the exact same mentality being used here now. I can only imagine the senior managers that came over from Watkins put in place the idea and sold it to FEDEX Mgt. Seems to me the big winner here will be Conway, OD (who knows how to run a LTL Co) and other LTL's after our customers get tired of damaged and late freight and find other carriers. Just remember Harrison--JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE THE BIGGEST, DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE THE BEST!! We already have seen a big drop in customers nation wide and I am sure more to come after this little experiment. Good luck to everyone.

Come on guys we need to wake up and do something about this bull****

Our "do something" is done by voting with our feet. If we're not happy with the way things are run, we use them to go somewhere else. Whether or not I agree or disagree with what is being done is a moot point. As a road driver, my job entails showing up and doing the job I was hired to do. End of story. Anyone that believes that they are owed something because they have been long term employees or have been loyal are finding out that the company is around to do one thing, make money. If it's not doing that then it is management's job to make it get there, however they can and the investors don't care how they do it.

This entitlement mentality is exactly what's wrong with our society as a whole. Hell we can't even get drivers to properly look at a tire or do a post trip, how are we going to "wake up and do something"? We are not in the loop of making changes, we are merely a tool that the company uses to make customers happy and make money.

There is no more Viking, American Freightways or Watkins Motor Lines anymore but, Watkins model ... now that is a bit from the truth. Is there even anyone left from watkins in upper management ? I don't recognize any of the names I've seen for a few years. The use of rail and PT with watkins was minimal and generaly at the end of the month when they were overun with freight. Watkins also had 100s of contractors and Fedex got rid of all of them. So I would say this is pure FEDEX trying to squeeze every penny into the hands of Fred Smith, his faithful board of directors and the investors so they will keep investing ... profit ... profit ... profit. Show me some dividends ! Happy Trails and hope they get something right ... soon

I love ya Roogie BUT can you at least see contradiction in the statement ? It's not a bad thing to love your company and to be hurt by what they are doing.
Maybe those tires would be checked if the company gave some kind of security to their drivers. Sure it's not their (company) job to do that. But good quality drivers are an investment and should be treated so.

I did let my feet show fedex what I thought and I never thought like many here that a job like this was out here.
Just sucks to see yet again what's going on. Prayers with everyone affected or effected .. whatever

STL is losing 23 road positions!! And I'm one of them! I might have a chance to transfer to Louisville ky.. Any thoughts are appreciated...

if you transfer to Louisville Ky look at your company seniority not just road seniority. A driver out of dayton transfered there a few years back and they made cuts he was one of them to go thats been a few years back. Good luck with your decision
