Hello,

my local terminal in Wisconsin has a city opening according to the website.... Would it be a good place to work?

What is the pay range in this area? Overtime Policy?

Any info would be nice.

I am also considering SAIA and dayton for other companies... any thoughts?

Estes is the best ltl company out there. They couldn't drag me away. Overtime after 55 hours which is monitored. We used to get 60 plus hours before we joined forces with the crybabies over yonder
All I can remember about Wisconson is the overly friendly women and the trout stream behind the motel.

for a city guy, how much dock work do that do... ? I used to be at conway and remember them telling me about that they were the best LTL company...

They all have there problems.

thankfully in my area i have many choices for a job. SAIA , Dayton, R&L, Holland, YRC, Conway (did that already) UPSF, VITRAN, and some smaller ones also.

Shop around, then come here to see what's up...We like it here..That's about all we can say..It's really up to you to talk to the local guys in your area, and decide...We could tell you anything and it would still be up to you to decipher the truth from lies...We're not salesmen,we're drivers for a good company...Good luck..

Talk to some drivers you see around. Chances are, they'll tell you they love it here. I love my job. And I don't get paid for saying it.

My choices would be 1st round/ Estes, Old Dominion, Dayton. 2nd round/ UPSF, Holland, ABF. 3rd round/ R+L, Saia, Vitran.. Just my personal, biased opinion. I left out Conway since you've already done that. Best of luck in your search.

We are nothing like conway. We have truck drivers and dockworkers
p

That's not 100% true I believe Sioux falls, SD the P&D are the dock guys. They are a small terminal though. We had to wait till a P&D driver got back to strip their freight off.

TRUST ME WE ARE NOT LIKE CONWAY!!!

I've been with Estes for 13 years now and it is by far the best company I have ever driven for. I do my job and no one bothers me. The company is strong financially and I have no fear of them going bankrupt, unlike some other LTL's out there. We have good equipment that is well maintained and we are paid very well for what we do. So, yes, Estes is good.

Looks like some of you out there are drinking the Estes kool-aid. What ever happened to overtime after 8 in a day or 40 in a week? You are losing $150.00 a week if you make 20 dollars an hour if you work 55 hours. Thats 600 dollars a month your family is missing out on.

sounds like flaswampfox is a unhappy union man and thinks hes entitled to things that estes never did in the first place. theres no slavery in the us anymore. if you dont like it, you can find another job somewhere else. just remember the grass isnt always greener

Well the last 3 years I have been here I have seen a lot of changing and not to the benefit of the drivers.
Been here going on 10 years and am looking elsewhere.
Estes does not respect the time you put in at this company, when they changed everything around alot of guys got caught in the Category thing so they lost alot.
If you do go here make sure you start out and stay at one thing.
The bigger terminals are the place to be, if you were to go linehaul, that is what I was for a long time and got reemed for it later.
Probably lost 10 grand a year over those changes I was talking about.

I talk to several drivers that say, "as soon as I find something else I'm outta here." Must haven't had anybody hiring in the last 10 years. Lol

you are touching on something alot of drivers are feeling now. many changes were made in last 3 years, and yes .... not driver friendly. as someone said in another thread... this is not your mom and pop company any longer. same as any other company... show me the money. I know I'm gonna get bashed with(just be glad you have job), but with the economy coming around, everyone has to take a deep breath and decide.... is the grass greener on the other side ? over all I'm happy here, but also see management has there foot in the door for more major changes, and it does not involve..(family first)

When is the time you heard anyone else boasting about where they work...They offer pretty good bennies, good pay,no cuts in pay...The only thing that I have seen,is they have slipped on, is in the shops...

I imagine its getting hard to find good mechanics seeings how nobody wants to get dirty anymore.

Does it make sense that a guy that has way less time in a company have it alot better then you.
Linehaul for 6, city for 1, utility for 1, and the rest of my time hub, just sorry but years back I was not gonna take a run that paid nothing on the hub, and now they seem to be going hub and utility it screws the guys that spent alot of time on something else.
