XPO | Pay Cut....

BUT let me guess...IF we didnt have to take these breaks then the company would be losing money now wouldnt they......

So your telling me that the 61.55 im loosing a week and the 3,200.00 im loosing a year does NOT benefit Conway in any way shape or form???? Whatever White shirt,,you seem to know it all dont you....Maybe you should go blow smoke up sombody elses a$$....
That 61.55 you lose goes somewhere. The company doesn't magically move the freight with less labor. Don't blame the company for this rule. I'm sure they don't like it either

Lunches should be taken at a drivers choosing as long as they comply with the HOS. Looks like once again it screw the drivers....

"It also includes a provision that allows truckers to drive if they have had a break of at least 30 minutes, at a time of their choosing, sometime within the previous 8 hours."

From what I'm reading and understanding, you could, for example, drive 4 hours, work the dock for 5 hours, then take your 30 minute break. As long as you take your 30 minutes before driving again. "May drive only if 8 hours or less have passed since end of driver’s last off-duty or sleeper berth period of at least 30 minutes."

no, you can drive for 4 hours and work the dock for 3 1/2 hours...you have to take your rest break BEFORE the 8th hour...

61.55 i lose goes nowhere..Its money Conway doesnt have to put out...making it a savings... which is a benefit for the company....That is why they want us to take it ON the Kronos, IF it didnt matter to the company they wouldnt care if the road driver took it on the road or at the FAC as long as they did it before the 8th hour....And For the record, I am not blaming the company for this....I know this is a DOT rule and we have to abide by it,BUT Conway could have let the road drivers rein of thier own log book and have a little faith in us that we will do the right thing.....We are not babies and dont need to be baby sat...Well, maybe not all of us.......

So I'm guessing that they(Conway) has already made it a rule to take your 30 when you first get to the FAC? They haven't said anything to us yet. Maybe in the meeting tomorrow a.m.

Tthe break can be taken at the end of fac. Conway IS trying to force it at the beginning. As long as you show a half hour lunch before you drive again!!! Its not your congressman period.....BS...........Read and reread the rule again! and again for soom of the slower to comprehend.
I happen to be one of the slower to comprehend.... I got it now.. I see the most money now. Yeah..take it before you leave to go back home. Or per the law, take it when you want .

C. No driving if more than 8 hours since last break of 30 or more minutes
The final rule requires that if more than 8 consecutive hours on duty have passed since the last off-duty (or sleeper-berth) period of at least half an hour, a driver must take an off-duty or sleeper berth break of at least 30 minutes before driving.

The way its written is you need a 1/2 hour break before driving past 8 hours on duty, not working past 8 hours. If you drive 4 hours and work the slab for 5. You could take a break at your 9th hour and drive home.

That is the way I'm reading it.

I would beg to differ... Section C posted in the Q&A thoughtfully provided by ssadab, doesn't differentiate between driving and on duty not driving...

The final rule requires that if more than 8 consecutive hours on duty have passed since the last off-duty (or sleeper-berth) period of at least half an hour, a driver must take an off-duty or sleeper berth break of at least 30 minutes before driving. To address an issue raised by commenters, FMCSA has also added an exception for drivers of commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) carrying Division 1.1, 1.2, or 1.3 explosives to allow them to count on-duty time spent attending the CMV, but doing no other on-duty work, toward the break.

Gotcha, see when i called Illinois DOT on this they told me with the way our company operates, and the way we work, all we have to do is take a 30 min break before our 8th hour to be able to work/drive....IF we dont take our break before that we will not be able to drive BUT can continue working...This looks like its gonna be a pain in the a$$ for awhile as this can be read a couple different ways...

how on earth can you bastardize the company for your thirty minute break? You're not working which means no production and no loss of pay. So take any large reship, 150 drivers arrive between 11:30 and 4:00am. So do you expect them to just ignore this new rule and it's effect on dock production and wait to see the effect July1st? So 40% of the guys arrive and take their break, what happens on the dock? Kinda like Where's Waldo on crack. There will have to be some kind of plan in place to organize things. At the end of the day this rule change is all about the driver being safer behind the wheel, that's it. So I say take your break when you finish on the dock at reship. Not everyone finishes on the dock and leaves at the same time now so staggered breaks would have the least effect on dock production.

WTF are you talking about??? I never said anything bad about the Company and i never said ignore the rule...maybe you need to re-read my post...DO you and White Shirt hang out together on weekends as you two both seem to think im badgering the Company.....IF my comments offend you and you then so be it....Scar me if i dont agree 100% with some of the decisions that this company makes...And seriously how many drivers coming into a FAC, taking their 30 min break, are gonna benefit from this????How many drivers are gonna "rest"...hanging out in the break room BSing or eating out of the machine is definatly gonna refresh us drivers isnt it....

I run a long run and I stop at the same place every nite on the way back if I am forced to take a break at the fac I will still stop on the way back I will not eat out of a vending machine and I guess that will cause me to get back later.maybe if everyone would take ther entire breaks maybe they would turn up the slow arse trucks

Your right, they are not MAKING a dime,BUT saving a dime.....Take 2 1/2 hours, times it by 24.62 that equals 61.55....Thats 61.55 a week they save per L/H driver per week..NOW times that by 52 and thats 3,200.60 dollars a year, per driver, conway saves....NOW im not crying im just stating the facts driver...Con-Way is saving a bundle by forcing us to take this at the FAC rather than on the road.....

try re-reading my post. On July 1st how should the company handle this new rule given the fact that this mandatory break must occur during our line-haul operation? Do they ignore it until then or try and figure things out now? How do we run a productive dock and still turn drivers to get the freight home in a timely manner? The guys that run hard ignoring their elements of fatigue by not stopping for breaks are the exact reason the government created this new rule. You can't loose anything that wasn't yours to start with... you talk about loosing the opportunity of thirty minutes of labor. All it takes is putting the half-full batteries instead of the half-empty batteries in my calculator. I can easily find more than thirty minutes of opportunity of earned labor every night.

In my post, I said "most money". It was supposed to be "lost money"

See that's the whole thing, they don't get the freight back in a timely manner anyway, it's just going to get worse. Either way con-way is going to make this work somehow in their favor.
