My terminal is often a drop point for new tractors.....but I have not seen any 2013 trucks dropped off yet. Anyone out there seen any yet?

None here. Still hoping because those are supposed to phase out the 8000s with no power or air.

We got rid of all of our city units 2001 and older......sent a few "parked for 8 months" units up north, haha. I actually drove a 2001 city unit (678-1013) for a while on my city run and it was rumored to have the highest miles of any city tractor in the company. Its currently parked out of service but still running.....has 550,000 miles on it. It was a decent truck in the cooler months. A bunch of the retired units are being auctioned off and exported believe it or not. Had a guy come by a few weeks ago to drive one up to the port of Baltimore and then it was going into a container and sent to Nigeria, Africa! So the only city units we have are a few 04's and a few 06's. At least they got air!

a lead mechanic told me most of the big ltls got grants from the govt ( you know how hard it is on corporations) on buying each truck. So these old junkers cant be operated after they are replaced with a new unit, as part of the deal.

Here are some of the major changes drivers can expect to see on the new Cascadias:
Engineered lift gate plug mount
Fifth wheel changed from a Jost Model to a Holland model
Aerodynamic package including:
Roof, side, bumper, canopy and tank farings
Goodyear 572 closed shoulder drive tires and rear wheel covers
Roll-away alarm which will sound if the driver fails to set the parking brakes before exiting

All good things, have also seen a couple of trailers with side skirts. Those will work as long as we're careful about where they go in p&d. One question, how is an alarm going to help you remember to set the brakes if you're already out of the tractor? Is t hooked to the seat? It's going to go off every time you get bounced out of your seat on a bump!

I don't know for sure, but I assume the parking brake alarm will sound when you open the drivers door if the brakes aren't set.

There was one at the MI TDC this weekend. I didn't pay attention if it had air or not. it had covers over the drive wheels. 3 min shut down even if truck is moving (example if you are in heavy traffic just letting the truck roll in 2nd gear it will shut down if you do not press the gas or push in the clutch. If this happens you must turn key off, turn key back on and wait for it to cycle thru, then the truck will restart.
.

You may want to check the registration, the truck I drove last year was a 2013 model the # on it was a 2 series, they are using what ever # is available not going by the model year for #'s.

The three minute shutdown is awesome up here when your stuck on the highway, an it's in the -40's. brilliant idea.

They have been doing that for years for example a 432-4876 which is as we know it a 2004 truck but registration says its a 2005 Sterling. I think it basically means that truck was purchased in the later part of that year. My dad bought a 1988 Dodge Daytona brand new back in Sept of 1987......but it was a 1988 model.
