Hi i am currently a ODFL driver been there for 5 years accident free ticket free and im also a driver trainer. I drive over an hour each way to work everyday and im thinking of switching because im burnt up on my drive. Your terminal in Mansfield Ohio is hiring and its only 10 min from my house. Would this be a lateral move for me or not. Any info on the Mansfield terminal would be great and also what can i expect here being a new linehaul driver

We're a lot alike, OD and Estes... I don't think you would go wrong.. City or LInehaul... Probably will start out as utility(city, dock cover extra runs and linehaul vacations)... Could hook right up as extra board if your luck is good...

Like Stark said. Both places very much alike. OD may have a little edge with better equipment but Estes has been on a buying spree lately.
OD may top out a little higher on mileage pay but think our hook and break set pay is better.
Nothing bad to say about OD. If they were 10 minutes from my house, I would probably be asking your same question on OD's board.

Hey Classof2008, brother OD'er , I was in the same boat as you. That hour commute to work and I ran a schedule that everything went wrong on a nightly basis began burning me out. Estes by my house is only 15mins away from my house. I saw where they were hiring for utility driver, so I took a leap of faith and will be starting in the morning as an Estes person. This should be interesting. Best of luck to you on whatever you decide.

Don't think there's enough difference to toss 11 years seniority and 3 weeks paid vacation in the trash between these companies like some are doing at some barns.

9 expected to walk at DAL(heard the big boys are over there talking to everyone).. 6 walked at MEM two weeks ago(or that's what it was up to two weeks ago)... 3 walked at OPE within 6 months(all with 10 or more years)...

That's what I'm hearing. I hope the grass gets greener for them

I put in 9 years at OD. I had a 45 minute drive to work. I also ran a daily schedule. They seem to be about the same. I don't know if I would give up a daily schedule run , 5 years seniority and vacation time for a lateral move . OD mileage tops out at .5553 & Estes is .5585. It takes 3 years to top out, that is 3 years you would be making less than you would at OD. It just depends on weather the drive time is worth the change and what job category you would get at Estes. I would not give up home daily to run extra board 5 days out 2 days home.

I hear ya showoff. Giving up 3 weeks vacation plus personal days is like tossing 4+ thousand dollars in the trash. People that don't like it here won't like it anywhere else. They may be job hoppers or just the type you can't make happy. I'm pretty content here. It's really not the money for me. Although I'll never complain of averaging over $30 an hour for being in a vegetative state of mind all day.

I'd stay in OD because you already have a schedule, the Mansfield terminal is a small terminal and I don't think they have many schedules. They have a lot of freight therefore they stay busy. Unless you don't mind being gone all week and sleeping in bunkhouses I'd stay put, unless you're thinking of doing city/utility

Been at Estes for 13 years , never knew we had a terminal in Mansfield , I spent 3 days in Mansfield last month while enjoying motorcycle racing at Mid Ohio , that explains the Big E trucks I kept seeing !!!!

Yeah, Junior will be over there next week, he's done got wind of what's going on... You may get the chance to move up.. Keep you eyes and ears open... DAL may become a hot spot..

Lmao. I like Texas. I could get on my bike and be out there in less than 12 hours. Less than that on in my car. There's only 2 runs that's better than the one I have. Can't move up much more

I wasn't talking about moving up on runs, I was talking about taking the terminal over as the TM man.. Hell with taking a linehaul run...

Lmao. They were forcing those Modelo drafts down my throat last night. I just had a visual of me dressed as a Dallas TM

I hope that the idea of an OD center in Mansfield or close by becomes a reality sooner than later..... :stirthepot:

stay at od. run from estes. people dropping likr flies in hammond. management doesnt seem to care. plenty of drivers with plenty experiance leaving. long time loyal drivers being replaced with non experienced people that only last a couple of weeks.estes equeppment sucks, shops suck,.

Stay at Od, then you won't have to worry about losing your Seniority cause they make operational changes that affects the Category your in here at Estes, unless you go City, you wont be affected by it then... And the equipment is fallin apart at Big E to boot..

estes only buys about 150 new trucks every couple of years. you will probably be driving a million mile plus trk.if you hire on as a utility you will be pretty much a cheap paid whoe.STAY AT OD. DONT LOOK BACK!!!!
