ABF | New equipment???

Does anybody have any news on new equipment for 2013?

Thanks

Until contract is settled there will be no new equipment ordered. That was said in the equipment session in Allen town in May. I would say now that it's August, It's probably to late for any 2013 equipment orders. So keep driving the 19 series till they can't go any more. We thought we would be going around to the terminals by now and going over the info they presented in may. But no assignments yet.

I was told last week there would be no new road tractors this year. This is the first time in many years the road fleet has not been updated. I was told there was just not enough in the budget for new tractors. The maintenance department said it will take three years to put the fleet back on trade schedule if one year goes by without buying new equipment. Maintenance & repair on a road tractor starts to cost more than buying a new unit after the third year. All of the road fleet & much of the city fleet meet the 07 emission standards so the expense of retrofitting old units with DPF's etc. will not be necessary. Retrofits cost more than the value of an old tractor & usually are not reliable. During the takeover attempt funds were not budgeted for the usual 500 or so new tractors. The 95 LNT's were kept on the road an extra year. There was much more major work done on them that fourth & fifth year. Some of them were put in the city fleet for the fifth year & remained there for several years. Also Carolina was putting new Internationals in service during the acquisition so new road tractors were not bought that year.

Thanks for all the info. I was figured we weren't going to get many new road units but none... Damn! I drove 19100 today 600k on it now 800k in another year wow this will be interesting.
