FedEx Freight | Union?

Ill give ya the sitting at home claim due to the purchase bs. I will side with ya on that. As far as the mgmt thing i cannot speak fir you guys. I do deal with a couple of hotheads that dont get it. Hiwever, im lucky to have redshirts that i can bring up my issues without intermediary. Ive had to talk to hr once and prob was taken care of in my favor. Dudnt have to pay a single due. I simply feel that the teamsters give 2 craps bout us. They just want the fedex employees so that their $ doesnt drop. Just like every big corporation, everyone whines how mgmt is lowballing the employees so they can appease the shareholders. Well isnf the union acting the same? They want dues for what? So they can show up with big rat and coffee for the striking employees? Then pocket the balance of the dues for themselves

I laugh when i read posts like this. The money that comes out of your check for dues, gives you a voice that you donthave right now at fed ex. It also gives you the chance to file grevences for things like senority issues, the buddy system doesnt fly at union outfits. But like i always say, unions arent for everyone, some people like the buddy system, but let me ask you a quick question. Say you have 25 years as a road driver and you get bumped off your run due to a medical issue, and when you cpme back to work(after getting cleared by the doctor) and the company says your run has been covered while you were gone and you dont get it back. And the driver who now has it only has 10 years but he is good friends with management..... does that sound fair???? This actually happened at a non union company. Now the union will do to bat for you,( becuz u r a dues paying union member) and get your run back, plus the pay differnce in the miles you lost since u came back from medical leave..... so you can bash the unions all you want. And for u saying look at ups, whats wrong with ups???? The company as a whole made 5.5 billion dollars profit last year. That a crap load more tben fed ex made. And ups teamsters make more then fedex employees do, they also have better health care and they also have something called A PENSION. and if you want to say " Well ups freight uses contractors to run the road," well sadly you are right. They do, ( due to a loop hole in the contract) but that is one of the biggest reasons WE THE RANK N FILE OF UPS FREIGHT HAD A 69% NO VOTE ON OUR LAST T.A. do you get to voice your opinion or vote to say we the drivers of fedex dont want to use contractors to run our freight?????!!!! If so go ahead, let ur boss know how you feel, and let us all know on tb.com how that worked out for you

Every driver / worker at fedex makes up their own union. They are represented as teamsters.
You as the upset not happy employee have to seek change. The teamsters can not just show up and fix it for you. You yourself have to seek out the changes you want at your workplace.

A person that is generally unhappy with their work environment will probably continue to be unhappy, union or no. Before I started at FXF, I went through the who hiring process with UPSF. Had a start date and everything. During the hiring process I was at the UPS terminal a number of times and I swear I never saw one driver happy or smiling anytime I was there. We have our share of whiners at my FXF terminal as well, but overall, they are a pretty amiable, easy going group.

good point matt, once we are teamsters our voice will be heard in votes, by turning down a contract or accepting it. Seems like the pilots at fedex express are happy.

elendil, I have lots of friends at UPSF here is what they tell me
Shuttle runs are paid by the hour at current top scale 26.50.
When on mileage you are paid top scale .67 a mile
When you hook and pretrip you clock in to time clock, clock out to Hit the road
When you arrive at your hub you take your lunch then clock in, wait for your trailers on the clock even if your run is only 350 miles.
Your not supposed to work the dock, because your stealing hours from the dockworkers and shuttle drivers
Your getting paid every minute you are at work how it should be.

The Task pay is bull**** and forces some to be unsafe, others to lose money. Tell me you start your day and are out of the gate in 30, Not me 45 minutes every night. that's 15 minutes a night i give to the company. Waiting to get fuel in fuel island, Talking to shop guy about something. It inst built into the run OT is some what built into the run . If your shuttling i'm sorry it sucks and you guys are gettting screwed the most.

Oh by the way, they might not be super happy to see a new guy I'm not i just see another lost soul that doesn't know what he's signing up for.

Answer me this gentleman, isn't it a strong possibility that even if we were to vote a union in, uncle freddy would dump us?

Smith won a major battle on Capitol Hill when Congress agreed to drop a provision in the House of Representatives that would have required FedEx workers to be governed under the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) instead of its traditional status under the Railway Labor Act (RLA), the law that covers labor relations in the railroad and airline industries. The NLRA, which permits workers to be organized at a local, terminal-by terminal level, is considered a much easier path to unionization than the RLA, which requires that workers at a company be organized as a single unit.

Smith had warned that FedEx would scrub a multi-billion order for Boeing 777 freighter aircraft had the reclassification become law.

Can someone please clear this up. Is freight and ground NLRA or RLA call you local union house I don't know where this information can be found. I have always been told that Express is under rla and ground and freight are different operating companies so are NLRA.

Because Fred started an air cargo carrier which is covered by the RLA and then went into the trucking aspect, (purchase of Caliber which included RPS, Viking and Roberts Express) all of FedEx Inc is RLA. UPS on the other hand started out in ground transportation placing them under the NLRA and then went into air operations. Their entire operation is covered by the NLRA. UPS filed a lawsuit challenging this trying to level the playing field and having FedEx covered by the NLRA but lost the lawsuit when Fred threatened to cancel a large airplane order with Boeing.

Search UPS vs FedEx labor lawsuit or
FedEx using labor law as corporate weapon

That only pertains to Express employees. Freight and Ground employees are governed by the NLRA. Both companies were started as trucking companies, and were governed by the NLRA before Fred purchased the companies. The fact that an airline cargo company purchased them, has no effect on RLA vs NLRA. We are free to organize shop by shop, here at fFreight and also Ground.

Let's put this issue to rest.
FedEx Express - RLA
FedEx Freight - NLRA

"Like UPS, FedEx Ground and FedEx Freight are covered by the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA). The FedEx Express integrated air and ground network differentiates it from FedEx Ground and FedEx Freight. The fact that FedEx Express is a separate and distinct network for air shipments is what separates FedEx Express from UPS."

I pulled that quote from a 3 page letter from Fedex to its investors and customers. This was posted on FedEx's website a couple years ago when UPS was lobbying to get FedEx Express taken out of the RLA.

The sad thing here is that some folks think the union actually cares about it's members...Hoffa is about to prove he doesn't, yet again, this time by going to congress and demanding they change pension laws so he can reduce the maximum pension payout to existing retirees to approximately $1200 a month. A friend of mine who was a teamster until he passed away, once told me the only reason to go union was for the pension. Seems Hoffa is eliminating that reason.

Yes look at the union they got YRC a heck of a deal. I believe a 10% pay cut then another 15%. I could make the same as them running otr. Thanks but NO THANKS!!!

No actually it was 10%, then that wasn t enough, so they took another 5%....equaling a total of 15%. But you forgot something..they suspended pension contributions to the national retirement fund...still suspended from what I ve heard...for about 4 to 4.5 yrs now...
