Why is it we have ALL watched the videos...signed the acknowledgment forms and yet we are still asked to pull trailers that are overweight??? Yes company pays ticket BUT it still shows on our motor vehicle reports & CSA Points are assesed to our records. Yet instead of making the supervisors fix this some still pull these trailers. I have done this in the past out of convience so I can return home instead of having to stay in motel due to lack of hours to complete run. Putting myself at risk of this violation. Company policy.... I believe...is 1# over..must be corrected. I've been asked...sometimes intimidated by red shirts "to just run with it". They knowing full well..as I have known..it's illegal & against company policy. We as drivers should not have to deal with..intimidation..or requests to violate law or policy. Is the company going to back us...or say it's drivers responsibility to ensure our loads pulled are legal???? And..if I pass the trailer back to dock to be reworked...they give me different trailers to shut me up...because someone else willful oversights without a problem. Why can we not all expect and accept only properly weighted trailers???? We have an obligation to move trailers safely. This includes lights..reflectors..tires..airlines and proper weights. We are helping save the company more money and CSA points by doing our jobs properly instead of "just running with it.

Good point...Company policy is there for their benefit to burn you as a driver. Once we as drivers exit that gate it's our baby, so to speak. They know it. and NO THEY WILL NOT BACK YOU. your word against the almighty red shirt. You know the one that said just run it....then says " I would have never told Joe Driver to violate the law or company policy in such a way."

Kinda like being in a hurry and not properly checking a seal...which Ive done...number off or seal not properly fastened..and falling off by time I reach gate. I get the write up...does the person sealing trlr get written up??? No. Just driver. So as a driver Im/we are responsible for everyone else + ourselves. That sucks

The only time CSA points are accrued is when a DOT inspection is done. If you get an overweight ticket by itself, nothing else happens.

That's true. I just remember the 2 times I rec'd overweight tickets. They were kind enough to perform a level 1 & last one was level 3? He crawled under and over every part of that whole set...took forever.

Don't pull em' redshirt will get fired if u have witness call em in.. Its not hard to correct they don't want use a extra driver 4 a 1000 lbs

The one thing I seldom hear on this type of thread is liability on the driver's part.
If you knowingly pull an overweight trailer or are aware of safety related mechanical defects and get in a wreck, you personally can be sued along with the company.
Not worth it, people.

True ...in some states it goes on your license and when you auto insurance runs your numbers and it POPS up. U get a higher rate for " misuse of equipment"....been there done that. Then it takes four years to fall off.

They cannot make you run an overweight trailer once you have stated and verified it's overweight the trailer is dead. If you feel you are doing them a favor and pull it, they will not remember a thing, if something happens. If in doubt call central before moving any further and they will not allow you to move it. As stated above, if you pull a trailer overweight, and they let you do it, the accident and its consequences are all yours. You pass the gate you're on your own. A fatality would most likey get you prison time.

Call central if ever in doubt. Overweight is overweight 1#-1,000# no mattter what...O.K. one # is a little exaggerated...

I was always told that if it is reported as overweight, even if only a pound, the company policy is to rework it to make it legal. And never follow the order, bump it hard to the dock if over in the nose. Had a dispatcher I was clerking for tell a driver that, and he did. Result was three long pipes busting through the door Not a pretty sight.

WellI'am sorry, It does go on your driving record, and if you go to apply for another job elsware, it will show-up and you wil be questioned. As stated previously, "ITS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY" to ensure that your equip is properly pretrip'd, weights are legal and paperwork is in order. If you dispatch and are over weight its on you especially if you have s scale in your yard/hub. WE had a driver out here in the Pac NW that failed to weigh got pulled in and got a $350.00 fine. He had to pay it because he didn't weigh before departing so don't think FEDEX is going to pay anything due to your lack of professionalism. Just say'n.

There was one of our guys who was given an overweight set back when the TOL Canadian dock was run by Ivan the Terrible. He scaled it before he left and it was over gross. Big Bald Redshirt's response was to blame our big trucks instead of his idiotic loading habits.

So what is the weight of your tractor?
Tractor and empty set?

Years ago, one of our old Vikings left Oak with a pair of 24,000 trailers.
Wheeler Ridge was not amused with his 84,000 lb set.

Ah yes, the good old Whittier Shuffle.

My tractor is 18700. I haven't scaled with an empty set yet. We are heavier, but we can also load more weight on the axles. And it doesn't change the fact that he tried to send out 2 heavy trailers with one truck to send a second available one empty.

Our scale is set to weigh three axles- steer drive and trailer- a city set up of course.. to weigh five seems to take forever and you must always back up to get your dolly weighed, every second counts when you have to make the gate.

I heard that the red shirts salary is based on the on time percentage of drivers making the gate- Is this true?
