Central Transport | unionize

Now will be your only shot to get a union in there. He won't be inclined to shut terminals down right out of the gate cause he will need the income. Too much to be lost in the beginning. If you guys don't unionize now, he will have you working for $17/ hr and no OT. Really you've got nothing to lose now, and that makes a man dangerous ! Good luck .

if the big idea is for central to come along and lay people off all over the place... they could just find some part time help to fill in the gap before they really put their foot down... would probably be better for them to do that anyway because its cheaper to pay unemployment for those people... not to mention... part timers are not going to care as much... so you better believe they could just find some part timers to stick around and replace you with them for trying to unionize... i have heard of this happening before.

SO WRONG Bruno-guy buys company for 2 million-any talk of union liquidation will be soon ahead!

please everyone stop the union talk manny has broke the union before and he will do away with us over ANY union talk, the unions in trucking are a dying breed just like the knights of the road are a dying breed, new school all about me is here to stay whether we like it or not, and that attitude is not conducive to the "brotherhood" attitude of union shops.

some tried but could never get enough to make it work, and PJAX management was just as anti union as manny is.

Unionize what??
Gentlemen, we have a dead breed of hungry people who just want a job to feed their family and keep a roof over their head. I've been the "Casual Worker" in a "Unionized Company" and had to pay union dues out of a paltry pay with "No Benefits" or representation as a "Casual Employee". Get a grip as it's a dying venue to be "Unionized" without the benefit of the "Union squad" coming in to have your back! It's not like the "70's or 80's" when "Union" had counted as a force. Get over it or "Start a New Force"!

Why didn't you guys go union when Vitran first bought out Pjax?

because unions suck, period. Your day is coming, the only union LTL that will survive with be UPS Freight. YRC is a joke, bleeding red ink and stealing money from Holland,New Penn and Reddaway. ABF still losing money and look term they will need to restructure. Only reason YRC still in business is the union bosses have been cutting deals with the Obama administration.

The only reason its a dying factor is because nobody today has ever got the guts to stand together. What have you got to lose ? Nothing. You already lost it when Manny bought the company. It used to be that truckers were a tough group of hardworking men and women who were willing to take some risks. Where did they all go ? The only reason you make over $15/hr now driving a truck is because of the hard fights that union men and women took to the unfair companies and their slavery practices. Did some people lose their jobs along the way ? Sure they did. Has any men ever lost their lives in defense of our great country? Sure they have. At some point, you have to stand and fight for what you believe is right - and you can't tell me that the way most trucking companies treat their drivers is right ! "United we bargain, divided we beg " . Think about it - what kind of legacy do you want to leave your sons if you have children ? I'm not trying to offend brothers, just inspire.

Yeah, and Obama didn't let the banks go under during the mortgage crisis and he won't let YRC go under just because they are so damn big it would create total chaos in shipping/economy. Whether you hate that concept or not, I think that is the way it will go down. And , you're right , the unions are far from perfect, but it beats the alternative. I've done both and am currently working in a union shop. At least I have some protection from shady bosses who favor their friends and would screw over the people they don't give a rats ass about. Be honest, you know that's how it works in a non-union trucking company.

Other than UPS I think the Union boys went from 600,000 in first NMFA to now 40,000 split between two companies on their death bed in YRC and fairly soon ABF. Sound like a great master plan I want to risk my families food and house on.

Enough said as Matty Maroun has stepped on the union for year's and will continue to do so. Try to unionize his new or old acquisiton results in him closing the door's and leaving the employees out in the empty field of dust. What then, try to find a job with a unionized carrier who doesn't have room for you?

go ahead and try to unionize, matty is going to slowly shut vitran down as he shifts freight to c.t. and sell the rest off that he does'nt use. he will start by moving automotive freight and that will affect sag, grr and det the most. these will most likely be the first terminals to be the victims of the mouroun massacre.
