Averitt | Being Followed

I'm saying that if you have a true fear of personal safety you must make the call, but to make a call just to get back at the company for observing our driving is just plain wrong.
Thank G_d that we don't have the management team that Conway has where they have forward AND driver focused cameras with voice. An outside company monitors all of this filming activity and if they detect you talking ***** about the company or see you yawning or talking on the phone or whatever, they notify the company. I can only assume that you are more than ok with this. I will be done with this outfit the day I catch one of these in my tractor (right after I put a towel over the lens and a piece of gum over the mic and run a couple nights). That is beyond the pale and no driver should tolerate it. I won't.

Amen to that!

I've been trucking foe 42 years now and see absolutely no reason for a class 8 truck to do over 70 mph. If you blow a steer while going around a curve on the interstate at 84 mph you may as well kiss your job and maybe your life good bye!

Profits, profits, profits........they put how much money into this stuff?
And how much do they have left to compensate this perfect driver with.
The top dogs and top shareholders probably put big bucks into pro-freedom, anti-tyranny type think tanks.......yet with the rest of their cash tyranny is there action.
I heard that lawsuits have been won about civil rights violations towards these types of monitoring that you say Conway does.
IF they would like it that perfect they should drive the darned trucks themselves.

Homeland security is DEFINITELY the right call for sneakysnake spies. If they think its fine to sneak around and follow then they should have no problem if somebody does the same to them. Hopefully they have their house in order with their taxes and are not perverted or imperfect in ant way (the spy company or those who hired them), for homeland security just may not leave no stone unturned.
What's good for the goose is good for the gander.
Live by the sword die by the sword.
Make money as spy, lose money as spy.
They may feel an obligation to the company hiring spies...and for those who may call homeland security i would think they are also showing concern for the company and the country.
We can't have people who pay $175 for cdl and fingerprinting and background checks, being followed around by anybody. THere is a "war on terror" is there not?
JUst trying to keep a safe country.

That's rolling down a hill for about a minute. However, in Texas the speed limit for ALL vehicles on interstate and most non-interstate highways is 75. But with Averitt's traffic impeding equipment, we are nothing more than in the way. And don't forget, Averitt has bought into the silly notion of "Going Green", one of the biggest farces on the planet. In many areas that I am running and with the head up a$$ 4-wheelers, you blow a steer tire, somebody is toast!

And I am only 4 years behind you in experience. I guess I am not as "white knuckled" as many are.

Point #1: Roll past ANY tractor that has Conway Freight written on it and glance in the cab at the upper part of the windshield. There you will see the red light shining from the camera. Have a friend that drives for them that will talk trash to the camera all night long ("Hello you snoopers? Wanna take a ride with me tonight?) I agree that this is a total infringement. However it is THEIR company to do with as they see fit. I, on the other hand, do not and will not subject myself to that kind of scrutiny.

Point #2: ^5 on the part about $175 for a CDL. If the company can turn us loose with a $200k rig with millions of dollars of freight inside an see the results of years and years of safe driving, then what's the point? Gives a whole new meaning to "driver appreciation".

I've heard that some of these new red light technologies can actually scan biorhythms and record them....whci can also be "sold" to compamies interested in buying the info.
Maybe also in truck computers and freight scanners and such.

Invasion of privacy type rights and other civil rights. Government tyranny or corporate tyranny....pick yer poison.

I don't care if they follow me, if they don't like my driving...there are plenty that will hire me in a minute. 3 million miles, with no chargeable accidents speaks for it's self. Conway putting camera's in the trucks speaks volumes about their company direction. Of course of all the LTL companies, you do see more and more of their trucks in accidents. I let my truck roll on down hills, always keeping it under control, it makes up for the pathetic speed going up hill. Has any one noticed the cameras in the upper nose of the new trailers?

Inside or outside?

"Has any one noticed the cameras in the upper nose of the new trailers?" Yes, I have seen a AE video explaining that these camera's allow us to view the empty status of a trailer from a computer at corporate to wherever the trailer is dropped.

I keep my camera handy....also looking to purchase my own personal in cab video camera .
If you have TA, Love's, Pilot, etc. points, you can use those points to purchase one for YOUR protection because you KNOW AE will always try to hang the driver out to dry if there is any controversy. You can protect yourself with one of the cams. That's fine because it is YOUR camera and not the company's.

As a side, I decided to take that goofy online pre-trip video and get my name in the pot for some gift card or another. Got 25 minutes into it and it locked up , I moved to the next slide and took the quizzes. At the end it said I got no credit. Too bad the pre-K character andy idiot wasn't featured since little dick can totally relate to him.

The cameras are located inside upper left hand side of the right windshield. Red lights are shining brightly. Some at AE wouldn't mind these cameras at all because they bow at the feet of the corp bunch.

I think he was referring to the trailer cams Jeepman was speaking of.

Remember too that these camera's can hang yourself if the collision was bad enough to injure you to a point ti where you wouldn't be able to retrieve the dash cam before it was viewed and possibly showed gross negligence on your part. But in today's world accident re constructionist can make a case for exactly what happened to cause the crash.

And itf it was bad enough you deserve to be hung. But I know a couple of our teams have been saved by the dash cams of others.
