TForce | 65 mph again?

Hope thats not another trend in the industry...Just curious as to why Parcel trucks seem to be a running roadblock at times and can peel the paint off your door at other times.I figure it depends on how much time they spent on the ramp or at the truckstop.

Their trucks where I'm at are set @74 mph, now most of the time they have the cruise set on 65 (paid by the hour) and other days (sat morning or they have something to do ) they air them out, turn and burn, code 7 and off the clock. Hope we never go to getting paid by the hour (rddr) but you never know!

Let em set it for 65 MPH. For P and D we get paid by hour. As far as Road Drivers, Well if freight starts showing up late due to speed, then they put it back up. However, 65 compared to 68 will add 1/2 hour to your run if lets say you do 500 miles in one night. Sucks cause you are losing a 1/2 hour of your time. From my understanding is their any proof that slowing down the trucks by 3 MPH actually saves fuel mileage? I heard it does not, but curious if any one has actual proof.....

What happens if you get a hardcore cop radar your tractor trailer doing 68mph in a 65mph zone?
I know it's only 3 mph above but it's still speeding.
Does anyone know what happens to their CDL?

You get a couple points, maybe. You show up to traffic court and the judge will ask "how do you plead" you say guilty and they give you a fine and withhold adjudication(no points) and you move on. With that thinking city trucks should be cut to 15 mph. If that same cop catches you in a school zone doing 16 in 15 it's still speeding. yes there is a difference in fuel mileage, with one tractor it a very small iincrease but you add up 5000+ tractors and you really see the increase. question is UPS has 100 times the power units that we have why not turn them back? 65 just puts us out there with several other companies tying up the passing lane.I see road drivers going to hourly pay in 2013. remember you heard it here first. Peace Out

Ive heard this rumor alot lately.

I can see this happening with two reasons in mind. One same or similar contract as package.(just a guess) Two safety reasons so the driver doesn't rush to the destination.

With the extra board on a wheel, guys will still be racing to their destination and back. I really doubt we are going to get a contract similar to Brown's. And paid hourly will be a significant cut in pay.

no one can answer that question, becuase sometimes it will sometimes it won't, it has to with engine RPM, every engine will run most effecient at a certian RPM if your above or below that rpm fuel mileage will suffer, slowing the truck down may put it below that RPM.

I remember when UPS purchased Overnite and sent out a letter stating they were turning up the tractors from 66mph to 68mph to help maintain speeds pulling the hills which would save on fuel. What changed? Road Driver hourly pay? Are we negotiating our 2013 contract already?

The wind changed direction? With these people, who knows?

I work the city. I say bring it on I need the raise. That usually gets them thinking. Once worked for a company whose line trucks where set at 52 and city where set at 74, go figure.

Well my truck just received its service turned it down to 65mph from 68mph.Now it wont pull a empty wagon over a ant hill and seems to act like motor has a bad miss! Doesnt go thru gears as well to gain speed and doesnt keep speed up to climb hills.Didnt think 3 mph was that big of a deal cause the only time i kept my foot in it was on hills and on friday quittin time I am wrong it sux
