FedEx Freight | Hiring in KCY?

Rumor has it that KCY is actually hiring, although I've heard that before. They also have ads on Craigslist, their website, etc. A guy I know has a brother who works there, and he said it too, but he hasn't been able to talk to his brother lately because he's in the hospital (Actually, he might be back out now, I'll have to check with him again.)

Also, do they still do the same sorts of stuff such as:

1) Have people fill out long-winded app forms when they aren't hiring?

2) Stick experienced drivers on the dock while putting newbies on the road? (I'll repeat the story of the kid who worked on the dock there and then was trained by FedEx to drive and was put to work in the city with no experience if you like.) I'm not afraid of dock work, though.

3) Refuse to hire an experienced driver and train some kid who worked on the dock for a couple years to drive and use him instead?

4) Fiddle-faddle around with applications so long that good people give up and they hire a lesser person instead?

The company is in business to make money, not make people happy.
It's the essence of our capitalistic society.
Now, all of that you wrote better get edited or you might see a lawsuit come your way.

How do they make more money by doing the things I listed?

they hire drivers (or train people to drive) who will work the dock with a good attitude and a smile on their face knowing they have a good job versus hiring disgruntled drivers who believe they are too good to work the dock. Everyone new hire starts on the bottom and works their way up.

I wouldn't mind working the dock, it's just that I've seen companies use experienced drivers as dockworkers and newbies as drivers.

I've always maintained a good attitude at work and followed the rules. But as they say, "Crying babies get fed first." or, "The squeaky wheel gets the grease." Wherever I am, the people who do all the biatching and moaning usually get their way, so the boss doesn't have to listen to them anymore. I've had people at work tell me that they really appreciated the fact that I didn't complain a lot and wasn't a jerk, but they were never the people who made the decision to keep or fire people. There's also the issue of back-stabbers and a**-kissers. I'm not good at doing these things. I'm also not good at lying, because then I have to remember what I said, and I'd rather not. I also don't like drama, so I try not to create any.

That does not matter here, you are going to be trained the Fedex way when you come to work here and if that guy has more seniority with this company, they are going to get the first shot at it....

What you did before you got here does not matter to them when it comes to driving, you will gt behind the wheel when it's your turn.

It's all about were you sit on the board "newbes" above below it don't matter. If you get the time then you go.

Sometimes they mess up and might send a lower seniority guy out. If it happens file on it and let them know they screwed up. Even if it means going to HR.

That's union mentality, Jeff.
So you're saying that a guy with a safe record, shows up on-time everyday, works his tail off...he sits at home while a guy hired 1/2 hour before him who flipped a set, lazy, calls off, complains all the time...HE gets to work?!?!
The seniority system is stupid and outdated...it's not good for hardworking employees, nor is it good for FedEx, either.
Pay/work for PERFORMANCE.
The company is in business to make $$$$$, not make people happy.

Who gets to pick the good from the bad Mike... Someone like you who hates everything about his employer or a dispatcher that might like someone more then the next guy. How about the turn guys. Maybe they should pick whom they want to meet. Good drivers and bad have to sit and wait thier turn. Life is not fair Mike, good people get displaced just like bad. Is what you find is bad employes ***** about everything and do nothing, good employes do a good job and try to make everyday positive. If your job makes you bitter then for your own good you should look at somrthing else to do. This is not a "quit if you don"t like it" post. Just plain and simple... why drive yourself crazy, it"s not worth it.

Well, see that's why companies do the contractor deal like FedEx Ground.
If I owned 5 trucks, I could hire and fire who I want.
I wouldn't give a damn if the driver was on the job 1 month, 1 year, or 10 years.
It's guy who works hard and makes me $$$$$...he's the one who keeps his job, gets the bonuses, etc.
You see, it's all about competition, free enterprise, pull yourself up by your bootstraps.
It's the American way.
But what happens here at Freight, you union guys handcuff the company with your seniority rules.
The lazy guys goof off and get their 40 week after week because they know the seniority system protects them.
All because of a stupid hire date?!?!?!?
That's why states like Wisconsin and Ohio are getting rid of all that nonsense...so maybe we're next.

Mike V is pob one of the biggest suck ass snitches at his yard. Just sayin. All big and bad on TruckingBoards kiss ass in person. Just saying ...........

No Mike it's not about competition. It's not my job to outwork everybody in my yard. I come to work everyday and do what's asked of me. While guys like you spend your time watching everyone else to see who is doing what and who is getting what. Spend a little more time on YOU and a little less on me and you'll find work comes to you. I know some guys are sitting at home amd it sucks. But when I hired on there was nothing promised to me. You look at life thru rose colored glasses and some how still have shi!@y outlook.
Last time I checked FXF was not union. Wisconsin and Ohio are getting rid of unions that should have never been allowed in the first place. And before you say "you union guys" you should know my feelings toward unions. I'm far from a union guy. In fact I'm 132 of 134 on my road board so the "seniority rules" you speek of do not apply to me.
Like I said before... if you're bitter... move on. I hear Ground is hiring. LOL

That's right, just do enough to get by.
Don't excel or go above or beyond or anything as that will upset your comrades.
More union mentality!!

You better believe it.
I snapped a cellphone pic of one guy parked sleeping behind a shopping center.
Turned it into the SCM.
That driver wasn't on lunch or on break...so he got suspended.
This kind of stuff affects all our livelihoods...so NO I don't let it slide.

I don't buy it. I don't think you could operate one of those fancy camera phones.
