FedEx Freight | freight inspectors

Maybe we should establish what a freight interceptor is first. Care to elaborate?

Inspector...

Those guys that walk the dock opening freight, taking pics and measuring it making sure it is properly classed

A few years ago at my center our city manager gave us all tape measures and said for every skid we have to have it's measurements. He did so we could try and maximize all space on a trailer.

The only thing I can think of as far as a freight inspector goes, it might be a division of the claims department. If we are having a problem with damage from a particular customer, and there is no apparent damage to the outside carton, they will go to the customers place of business and suggest a different method of packaging the product to cut down on the damage. This would probably be a salary position. If all else fails why don't you walk up to one and ask him or her. That probably would be a lot quicker than waiting for a PM. TP

they actually make fedex a good bit of money. It's sorta like reweighing freight. You can't see what the freight looks like all the time when you rate it, so when these guys see something unusual they measure for cube..etc and charge more. They themselves, aren't paid anymore than a dock super.

I work @ a small end of the line terminal so we don't have any of them to ask, which is why I thought posting here would be next best thing. Thanks for all the responses & info so far

It's a good gig. As long as you do your job you don't get bothered. Typically your boss is a few states away. Make sure you have very comfortable shoes. If you don't wear glasses you will shortly after taking the job. The computer they carryis redicously small.

It seems like a pretty good gig to the Weights and Measurements people I have talked to. You do open and measure shipments all night long, you have a laptop to see if the billing info matches what is in the boxes. It is work though the guys who I used to know up at Chicago heights ran all night long. Important job.

Weights and measures ?
These people go around and figure how the customer is cheating the company by mis-classifying and under stating weights. They identify who these customers are and charge them. Their is a lot of money to be recovered here.
