saw the new handbooks and application on our t.m. desk.friday. this is what the an office worker told me. if you are on of the first vitran driver going to a c.t. terminal to get trained, you will be one of the first let go after you reapply within the 90 days of probation. that way c.t. will not have to pay unemployment. reason will be not meeting their work standards. they have already picked what vitran drivers they want. at my terminal we have 18 drivers left but they only want 10 drivers. our area is getting smaller since c.t. has another terminal nearby where 50% of our runs are. I thought we didn't have to reapply. in 2 weeks my terminal should be done with the switch over to c.t. according to my t.m.

That's not happening at our barn. I've already trained a couple V drivers, and others have trained with the other CT drivers. The only things I've seen anyone sign were the handheld responsibility forms and training/ tax withholding docs.

This is completely false for the most part. I will say that if you are let go for work performance you still qualify for unemployment in Texas...I will also say there will be layoffs in Dallas and if I had to guess at least 50%...But only the Vitran drivers because we are the step children...They will not go by this so called dovetailed seniority....All CT drivers are totally secure.

That's bull, vijax At least in my state. Employers have to pay unemployment regardless of how short a time period the employee works for the new company. Earned wages and credit weeks are accumulated from earnings received from any employers over the prior year. I realize some states aren't like this. I recall Florida unemployment does require employees work for a new employer for X time period to qualify for unemployment. Don't fall for rumors. Verify your sources. Research your state laws.

depends on the state.
