Central Transport | Chaos in Dallas

Just remember this train, your TM used to be very high up on the ladder at vitran. So i gurentee you that he will do whatever it takes to get back up that ladder, he is a hot headed snake, that will bite at anytime. The man has no patience, and does not take crisisume lightly. (I dont think i even came close to spelling that right lol). And by the way, since i became a road driver, i have alot less stress. My only problem now is i gained 15 lbs. Lol
$$ When you ask me about UPS Freight in our PM I told you to go. I receive many PM's from drivers asking the direction I see this company going and if they should stay. My answer is always different to each person depending mostly on their age but other factors as well...I have received more PM's on Hartman than by far anything else since I have become the Moderator...From former managers to drivers believe it or not.....I have my personal opinion of this man that I choose to keep to myself because as a moderator my job is to enforce the rules and try to remain objective. Things are changing here in Dallas slowly but only time will tell if he is doing his job. And BTW $$ the spelling is.....Criticism....And personally I don't really care...He's no better than me or you...He puts his pants on one leg at a time too. And as you know the Train has had a couple of shots of the Crown and is ready to lay down his occasional philosophy.....In this life it's never about being better than the next guy...It's never about having more money, power, or status.....It's about being better than you use to be....a better father...a better husband...a better human being....If you can look in the mirror right now and say you are better than you use to be then my brother you are on the right path. Just take the path down a little farther and hop your fat ass on that tread mill $outh$ide....LOL...15 pounds..Good grief man...Show some damn restraint my tubby teamster brother.

I am not exactly sure how to post this, but I'm looking at a paper that says we will be covered by VITRAN insurance (Highmark), Delta, & vision) through the end of the year. I made appointments accordingly. Now I find out that's all being canceled on my last day at Vitran. You've all read it. Not to mention MOST of you already know you've been lied to. You may be choosing not to gripe about it as much as I am, (lol) but I really doubt any one of you could honestly say this is a straight-up deal.

Anyone.......??

call highmark to verify. In all honesty whether we like it or not, CT will do whatever they want, fair or not. You have two choices; accept it or move on.
 
Don't even compare the two. P-jax / Vitran was done with a lot more forethought. It took time. It was more of a merger than an acquisition. THIS is ridiculous. Case in point- wage disparity. P-jax got O.T. after 45 hours. Vitran got it after 40. How do you combine the two? Well they actually THOUGHT about it. Vitran LOST the five hours of O.T. but got a bump in pay so that they would make the SAME amount of money once they worked 45 hours. It worked out. I am not aware of anyone that took a huge pay cut. If anyone did, I would REALLY like to hear about it. How does the Central / Vitran "acquisition" handle it? -By taking away ten hours of O.T. from the Vitran guys (which screws them) AND letting the Vitran guys KEEP their higher wages (which screws the loyal Central drivers). In other words- THIS SCREWS EVERYBODY. I have absolutely no idea how a Central driver could even defend this... I have respect for ALL drivers (INCLUDING CENTRAL DRIVERS), but the company SUCKS.
There's no difference between taking hours away and giving a raise and taking hours away and keeping drivers at their pay rate. Either way, the drivers losing hours end up with higher pay rate than the drivers who didn't lose hours. It just feels like it sucks more.

I agree. That is why I am doing everything I can to move on. Applications out. Calls being made. Options being weighed. The money has to be there. One thing is certain- Central will not be a place to prosper. Oh, the company will prosper. Matty and Matthew will prosper. You will not. If you choose to stay at Central- you will make less money. (I do math.)
 
We work for bottom feeder express, management hates us, our customers hate us, we hate each other... What a great thing to be a part of, right? Seriously, what a crap-tastic situation we are in. I thought the PJAX-Vitran merge was rough... We merge Dec2 at LVL, almost none of us have been trained on the scanner, management admits they are failing us, and yet it'll be us that'll catch the heat and take blame for this debacle. I pray to be fired so this bumpy ride will end.

Crap-tastic is such a perfect word for the situation. It expresses the horror and down right absurd nature of all this.

I just want things to be fair across the board....Both CT and Vitran employees must make sacrifices....Not just Vitran...It appears special treatment is being given to CT employees...If things don't change soon I will break it down for all to see. All they need to do is be fair. When I see 2 CT guys running my old P&D route with just a couple of years seniority and I have been running that same route for 10 years that is not fair.

Have to agree, RT. I go to New Buffalo, Mi and set with a Indy driver for 3-4 hours for our return trip. He was the 2nd in on Monday,10:30-11:00 p.m. Meanwhile, 2 CT drivers show up from Indy, pick up their return and leave while he just sets. He left at the same time I did; 3:30 a.m. When I asked about getting paid for our delay time, my "new" terminal manager told me I have to call LH and get a control number to get $12.50- $13.00 p/h and fill out a delay form when I get back. Since it takes 15-25 mintes to get dispatch on the phone, I'm not going to set in the lot when I could be 25 miles on my way back home.

We were promised our "base rate" or flat rate whichever was highest. Not from what I'm being told by the l/h drivers already over. They are on flat rate, period. So, it now takes me 8 1/2 to 9 1/2 hrs. to earn $92. $460/ wk. Less than half what I used to make, so when my TM told me I need to get measured for uniforms this morning I just told him to hold off on that for a while.
My interview is Monday 12:00 noon for my next job.

dont you mean look at what MK and RG did to us all they started this down fall and ran off with the cash!!!!!!
I actually mean RG, sorry my mistake....But then you would know that if you have read my post over the past year. Chris Keylon never stood a chance....I really never blamed him...I always blamed RG....Too much damage had been done when Chris came on board....From day one I said he was going to be made the scapegoat, and he was. Even with the most innovated business models it was just too far gone...Things are getting better in Dallas. But at this point things are still day to day.

We were told all CT drivers load their own trucks. That's why every Vitran driver needed to be forklift certified to prepare for the merger. CT is flooded with freight---terminals are overflowing---so they called the Vitran dock workers to help. My point is it seems there is plenty of freight but breaking it down and loading it into trucks is what's causing there not to be enough P&D work. P&D drivers being on the dock is to help dig out of the mountain of freight. And you're not being treated differently since all drivers were expected to work the dock at CT prior to this merger.

Maggie mae is correct , back in the mid to late 2000's central's plan was to have drivers work the dock basically your trailer, you move a trl point A to point B you strip it, line haul drivers and p&d, once they made it (Law) that's how it was done, just recently they hired dock workers and pulled drivers off the lifts, so working your freight or any extra isn't anything new to central, you would come in and load your trl the way you wanted to pedal it, a lot of guys jumped on this dock work because it was more hours in they're check. I didn't much like working the dock myself so didn't mind the change, You may not like the dock but the pay is the same as running a route, and your working. Maybe things will change for you guys and you wont be so discouraged, these Dolphins can be very frustrating when 1) your not familiar 2) when they don't work right.... that whole unemployment thing with central???? that's a long road to hoe , not many success stories... Sincerely I hope the transition becomes smoother for you and more to your liking, this is to all Vitran Drivers.....
 
Two weeks into the full integration Dallas has seen major improvement. We still have a long way to go but things are getting better. Whether I stay or not at this point depends on if I get a route or not. Out of the 60+ P&D drivers I fall into the top of the seniority list so I should have a route. But they don't have to do the right thing, they can do what they want be it right or wrong. They did do a full dovetail like I said from the beginning when most said they wouldn't. And that was right, so there is hope. The reason most P&D drivers in Dallas are way at the top of the seniority list is because up to around 2 months ago you had to work the dock and that caused massive turnover. Those days are gone unless you choose to work the dock...Yet again, they are doing the right thing. I have been up and down about this buyout but I have decided to stay as long as they continue to move in the right direction. The perception of this company can change. Many drivers attitude can't so as we move forward in this transition many need to access their future here. For the ones that choose to leave I would like to give you some advice on your move. Never leave a job for the wrong reason. Never leave because want to turn your nose up to us that choose to stay and think you are better than us...Leave arrogance behind and try to learn humility and wish us the best. God will slap you down if you leave for the wrong reason. Take that for what it's worth. Try to leave as our P&D driver Butch did after being here 13 years...As he quit this past Wednesday and walked down the ramp for the last time weeping uncontrollably I stopped him with an tear in my eye and gave him a hug...Butch said I wish you guys the best but I just can't grasp the scanner...It's just too much for me...God will truly bless our fallen brother...He's a good man. And understands humility all too well.

rt you was right about the dovetailing, but as I said ct does not bid on runs or start times,the problem is ct has been trying to please both vitran and ct employees. They told the vitran guys they wouldn't loose any pay, and they been honest about that. When then the vitran guys got the assurance they were going to keep the same pay, the next thing they wanted was to dovetail in which by all means meant you guys wanted the jobs!Most guys thought they was going to walk in and push all the ct drivers to the bottom! And now that ct didn't guys are whining? A lot of guys been with ct since they started hiring company drivers, and you want them to treat them like they mean nothing?you guys have a level of arrogance that's unreal! You guys want everything !!! Then you talk about ct perception? What about how your perceived? Ct reads these post. Think about that and enjoy your holiday.

I don't want everything....Dude did you even read my post. I don't expect special treatment but I do expect things to be fair...Why should CT drivers get to stay on their routes with no changes while Vitran drivers get all the BS.....Whatever dude....guys like you are the reason CT has the reputation it has today. And BTW 3000 I never once thought I would come in and push guys around.

Rob stamper told us that we would run our routes along side of the ct drivers routes. A total lie told by Stamper, we are not trying to push ct drivers off their routes. Just want Stamper to walk the talk. You were not at our meeting, so obviously you have no clue as to what his comments were.
 
c.t. told us were keeping our wage and dovetail, we did'nt pound down morouns door with demands. don't worry cti, former vitran employees are slowly finding other means of employment.
 
We hope CT reads the posts, then they can see why we are upset about their lies and why we are leaving. No need for exit interviews.

fair... is it fair that some vitran drivers make more than some ct drivers? Did you once say how unfair that was? No I bet you didn't! The reason some of you don't have runs is because you merged into a ct terminal and the run you used to do went to another ct terminal,so what is ct supposed to do? Give you a guys run that's hes been doing for years,just because your run didn't come with you! That's the reason ct drivers are staying on their runs. "Guys like me" is the reason ct has their reputation? What... you don't like that I stand up for ct drivers? Guys like you keep this back and forth thing going! First you talk bad about ct, then you say nice things on ct board, and now that things haven't worked out the way you thought it would your back to talking bad about ct. Your the main one and your supposed to be in the middle as the moderater? All you do is flip flop,one day ct is not the same as before, now its the worst because place because your doing shuttles? Then you put bad language on tb....the moderator!!!! You ask did I read your post? Not only did I read it I read through them! You have done the same thing I've done on tb stand up for your drivers the only difference is you pretend to be down the middle, and act like your this good natured guy thats here to help all. You are as bias as I am if not worst because you pretend you not! Show me once were you said it not fair vitran drivers make more than some ct drivers, but your quick to say why should ct guys keep their runs, this has always been about keeping and taking jobs from ct drivers that's why you kept talking about dovetailing. You would love to keep your pay if your run doesn't come with you bid on our runs and start times, I call it how I see it. If its not about that than what is it about?
 
be honest CT really does not want Vitran employees working for them, the concept of building a new company is just not true. Wait until all the freight is in the CT system and we will see what happens
 
If your upset about Vitran drivers making more money maybe you guys should should start complaining about it. I do not agree with this as well. If a ex 12 year Vitran driver is making 23 an hour then they should bump up all 12 year Ct drivers to 23 an hour, this is one of the biggest reason for the animosity between drivers. We were told ( like so far anything we were told came true) that runs are based on performance, (which I for one have no problem with) but how are they base performance if they are sending guys to areas they don't know? Would you not do as well if they took you an had you run somewhere you never ran? Is that giving you a chance to show your performance fairly? Maybe its time we all stand back an agree both sides have fair complaints and it's going to take time to work thru them.
