Okay. My husband and I have decided to approach this a new way. I can't share details about our plan-of-action just yet, but I assure you that I will follow-up with specifics later this week.

Our Vitran drivers have been heading over to CT without orientation and not knowing any information about pay, benefits, or anything. So, please tell me what is in store for line haul employees. Are there any decreases in pay rate? Are the benefits truly more expensive? Are the benefits truly not as good? Are we losing vacation and such?

Please give me a run down of every single detail you know as far as our upcoming losses.

I have a BIG idea!!!! :D

O.K., this is what I know so far. Our first 2 drivers headed over 3 weeks ago. At that time they were told that they are on flat rate NOT milage pay like we were promised. They should have received their first pay from CT this last Friday. I didn't get to talk to either one of them since I was left at home Friday due to no work. I went over perm. a week ago myself. A new driver was hired this week off the street and he did work.
It will depend on which barn your hubby works out of as far as nightly work load goes. I drive 110 miles, set 3-4.5 hrs and come back. Flat rate of $92. 9-10 hrs. a night for that.
My insurance for the 2 of us ran(with options)$93. My new plan is low deductible--no vision,no short term disability, did NOT pick up the dental($20) option. I will now pay $101,. My doc office co-pay is $50(was $30) I will have to re-read plan again, but I believe long term dis. may be available.

So far, no word on when I might be trained on the handheld. When he calls in to central dispatch, he will be on hold anywhere from 10 to 28 minutes. He will receive a trip number to reconcile his pay. That's 10 to 25 miles down the road for me, so I hope he has a good memory.

One more thing, I was told to be in the yard a 9:00, then 8:00, now it appears I should be there at 7:30. Have him try to get a definite dispatch time right off the bat. Probably 7:30. If not, just show up early.
Good luck with your plan, and I hope your BIG idea does not include yellow paint.
So, $92 x 5= $460-$101(ins)-taxes=:horse****:

i was told if mileage was more than flatrate, you get mileage. if flatrate was more than mileage, you get flatrate. seems like another lie we were told.

Remember all drivers were terminated from vitran and rehired at CT. That is made clear in the packet we received about cobra. Legally it is no different than quiting a job and applying to another.

We get what we are given. Im not sure what the plan is, but keep that in mind.

I think I have an idea of what yellow paint means. I hope not too. We are prepared if it does. We'll see.

When did you receive that packet? While you were at Vitran or when you went to CT? We have not received any information whatsoever. No packet with Cobra or anything. We don't know pay rates. We don't know benefits. Many people are still Vitran employees receiving Vitran direct deposit.

I'm well aware. It's what inspired my idea.

I talked with our lawyer. My plan sucks. LOL Well, it's a good plan, just premature.

Thanks for sharing information. I'll be certain to share our experiences too soon.

Ok got my first check from ct they are paying mileage but something isn't right with it and they give you no way of checking it. All in all I've lost $100 plus with this deal. When I say no way of checking all they put on your stub is mileage pay and how much you made not how many miles you had or the cents per mile I keep track of everything so I know how many miles I drove and nothing adds up closest thing I can come up with is they dropped my pay but no way to tell. Seems like smoke and mirrors so far I don't like what I see but they have til spring to change my mind or then I'm gone

When you do the math, how many cents per mile do you think you lost?

...but they have til spring to change my mind or then I'm gone
I hear you!

The best I can come up with is between 1&2cents but like I said nothing adds up. All in all the people have been decent but their drivers are on edge because they are making so much less then we are the flat rate for them is a joke between 40 to 60 bucks less a run on average and that's at our lowest rate if you figure the flat rate to mileage it comes out between 32&36 cents per ridiculous

We were forewarned that the day Vitran drivers walk through the door at CT terminal, they will automatically become CT employees. I think we got that in writing. The whole Vitran terminal isn't becoming CT all at once. As each driver goes over to the CT terminal, they become CT employees. That's why I urgently needed answers. It turns out my plan wasn't good but it's still nice to read the line haul posts. There wasn't much line haul information all in one place.

Ask your TM for your pay summary for the week. He should be giving it to you anyhow. He can print it right out of OSS. It breaks down dispatches and hours by duty and day, as well as what was paid for each. The only thing it doesn't have is year to date.

Your plan should really involve your hubby finding a new job.........im just sayin
I'm working on that. There are plenty of jobs. He is getting calls from applications almost instantly. Once he talks to them, he's not interested for one reason or another. Somehow he thinks he can be picky. To me, it sounds like almost anything is better than what people are describing here. Half of the Vitran drivers from our terminal are sitting at home now due to lack of work. They never made it to the CT terminal. When my husband went to CT for his first day, one of the other Vitran drivers was sent home. Clearly there isn't enough work for everyone, and it's only going to get worse. Oh! AND the toll pass didn't work on the CT truck. He had to fork out $60 of our own money!!! I told him to not do that again. I don't trust them to pay us back!!!!

Your husband is the one who needs to make the decision as to what job offer to accept. Not you. Just saying... He already knows that the pressure is on to move down the road, he needs your support.

Oh, give me a break. We're a team. We have always been a team. It's necessary for successful trucking marriages. Spouses have to live this life too.
