Central Transport | LVL Tanking...

Well in nashville, word is they are usingvthe vitran dock for city ops, and ct dock for outbound and hub. Sounds like a great plan..... if the two barns were on the same street. Ones by the airport, and the other is about 10 miles away, and that one is about a mile away from downtown nashville. I bet this page can fill up with smart moves like this. My two cents is this. If centrals management can pull this off then central will be a very big player in the freight game. But if not, then all this buyout will do is feed the two big pigs (fred, conway) more freight, we all know what those two outfits tried to do by trying to put out yrc. Their sales personal is already out there looking for vitran or centrals dropped trailers at businesses, they will go on in and undercut and steal your customers. We dont need another pricing war. We all seen how that worked out for the blue collar workers in this industry. Good luck my fellow drivers......

Central can only keep the accounts that will tolerate our lack of service. Central will not change. The customers that need at least a mediocre level of service will leave. Customers who do not need an "on time and in tact" service will be happy though. Think salvage yards that ship greasy engines and transmissions or an anvil manufacturer :)

Every industry needs a bottom feeder. Look at The Dollar Store chains. They make money. I just do not want to work at the Dollar Store. Bottom feeding is not my style, but it takes all kinds.

A few months back Old Dominion saw that even with all the new accounts they have they still had excess capacity, and even though they are one of the most expensive companies to ship with they still had crazy profits. As a result they dropped their prices some to fill capacity and some industry watchers commented that there could be a pricing war. That coupled with folks under cutting CT could so something.

It is all good folks.

LVL is one terminal. The terminal in my city is moving freight efficiently. I'm sure many others are doing bad and good and everything inbetween.

Clearly the terminal managers are impacting how each terminal fairs. It's just a matter of time before they all figure it out.

Yes the TM's are impacting well at least FTW. He has been slacking and not answering any calls from CT management. He was suppose to send a list of the office personal over 2 weeks and still has not done it with only 2 days left before that FTW location is closed. He doesn't care about what is going on and is looking out for himself. CT doesn't even know who works at the FTW terminal as of yesterday but some of the employees are taking steps so they know who is over there. Pretty sure he thinks they might all jump ship and he will have to do everything himself until its over. Hoping to get out soon maybe even before tomorrow..

i'm telling you the only acct mourouns really care about is g.m., the rest can stay or go. c.t. has been conducting business the way they've always done and make a profit doing it. plus they save a mint between not paying o.t. after 55 hrs and owning the basement level insurance company.

You know you can't beat Matthew in a price war....He will undercut anyone...He is the affordable carrier and has had his niche in the LTL market for years...Some people don't care about anything but the cheapest rate and will ship it by Central most all the time despite horrible service and a high claims rate....I don't get it but that's just the way some people are.

If he cares so much about the GM freight, just suggesting that they start sending CT drivers to Pontiac to get the loads and the MT trailers out of there. Pontiac will not let us Vitran guys take anything out of there. Just saying...

that's miscommunication that will be straightened out quickly. this deal seems to be going smoother than the vitran/pjax debacle.

In revenue i heard we were #7 and CT was #12 at the time of the purchase, now combined I would guess we are around #5 or so, pretty big jump from12 to 5 very overwhelming. and considering CT in certain areas doesn't exactly have a stellar reputation and Vitran drivers are jumping ship, makes the transition even harder. I know including myself in Det there have been a dozen or so that have jumped ship in the last 2-3 months, I personally was just to burned out from all the stress the last couple of years to ride out another merger/buyout.

"..a dozen or so" plus one. After what I experienced today? What complete incompetence! The freight on the dock was so tore up! You'd have to be an idiot to ship with Central! Seriously! LOL... I've never seen anything like it! Honestly, I'm literally embarrassed.

For any of you drivers still holding out in LVL, check out USF HOLLAND's board. They are looking to hire 5 city drivers in LVL. From reading the posts out of there, some are just waiting for the other shoe to drop. Don't wait for CT to give you a late Christmas gift, give one to you and your families. Go online and fill out the application this weekend.

Most of the terminals are overstaffed and must cut back on employees. Do yourself a favor and leave of your on accord, like many of us already have.

This advice isn't limited to LVL, most other locations are hiring. Not just city board, but L/H also. Hell, you will probably pay more in taxes then you will gross at CT anyway. Jumping ship is not comfortable. It can be frighting for a lot of people. But, as Train said...Take that Leap of Faith.
