Drivers agency's

Let start with Drivers agency's, they are plague in the profession, as they jeopardise our working conditions and salary.

They keep draining our working conditions and salary to the low level.

In Québec they do control about 65-70% of the market. Carriers do like-it as they don't have direct link with the Drivers. This way they cut in their cost of operation.

I think that it is about time that the goverments should regulate that area so that Drivers can work with dignity.

So here,s an article about the subject. Yes it is in french, but there's a translator tool in the right column.

Routier Revendicateur: Agences de Chauffeurs/placement

you speak of Canadian agencies.

these are "temp agencies" which many times, the "temp to hire" is also present.

sometimes, these agencies actually fulfill a need for the employer, and i can speak of myself from at least 2 instances.

these instances were when an employer wanted to hire drivers full time, but had no time to put an ad in the paper, or do a background check, etc. so these agencies provide that service for them.

you may call a "temp agency" such as a driver's agency a zit on the face of the worker, when in fact, do you KNOW all they provide for the driver's as well as the companies..??

i think not...i think that as a new poster here, you think that you have all the answers.....

how many years of actual driving experience DO YOU HAVE..??

have you ever used a "temp agency"..??

do you have a job right now..??

do you know that many people go to these agency's for employment when they have exhausted all other avenues..???

do you (or did you) know that these temp agency's can provide work for a pperson, who does not LIKE staying in one place for too long.>??

did you know that these agencies can actually LISTEN to you and get you OUT OF an employer you wish NOT to work for, and send you to another..??

try quitting your job on the spot, these days and go to work for another employer WITHOUT all the paper work you MUST do to get hired all over again, when the temp agency has all this ready for you for your next assignment..??

Yes I do have a job, matter of fact it is a Teamsters job local 931.

Over 35 years of experience, is it enough for you?

Yes I've work in the past for Drivers agency. at the begining they where for temporary work, but then they turn the temporary into long term!

Yes I do know a lot of Drivers that don't have for now other option to go thru Drivers agency, as they do control the market. I don't think that it is a viable choice, but more a lack of options. When you work for a Drivers agency you always work for lot less then the regular Drivers of any carrier. Carrier do use Drivers agency to lower their cost of operation. Not sure what's the regulation in the USA about-it, but here actually there's almost none!

Regarding job hopping, I don't think that do reflect the choice of the majority of Drivers. As Drivers we do appreciated steady work!

Here all Drivers agency that I either know, have work for are full of sh...., they all promised you the moon, but can't deliver it.

So who ever you are, I do think that I know what I'm talking about. Usualy when I don't know I shut up!

Live better, work union.

I am a former union member, IBEW, 30 years. Job security, great wages, benefits, and working conditions. Something that many non union workers do not realize.

I do not believe that there are any regulations on the temp driver industry in the US. I know of a couple in my area and what makes it worse is that they have a no compete clause that the fools who drive for them sign. The temp agencies have contracts with a lot more companies than actually use them in the even they get in a bind and a driver who has worked for them can't drive for any of the contracted companies after they sign that agreement. They unwittingly get themselves locked into that temp agency. Low pay, no benefits, no real future.

you say the drivers work for less, then the regular driver..give us the exact dollar amounts, and uh...by the way..not everyone can work for a union shop, as not everyone "knows someone" to get them in...

many do appreciate steady work, but the unions have bled many companies dry as well...and this results in closings...

then you only "knew of" a few from YOUR working for them.>??

So who ever you are, I do think that I know what I'm talking about. Usually when I don't know I shut up!

then you may shut up now..???

why would you post a Canadian report..aren't you an American.>???
take your union BS to the union boards....

Well you don't seem's to be agree with my awnser.

You ask questions and I've politely awnser to it!

No need to be conceited with me.

So here's some numbers just for you: agency Drivers average hourly rate $15.00 to $17.50.
Compagny Drivers non- union average rate $16.50 to $19.00.
Union compagny Drivers average rate $20.00 to $26.50.

These Drivers do the same jobs for different carriers. They all drives tractor/trailors. So yes I do think that aint fair.

I'm not agree with you about that Union a responsible for compagny closing. When a carrier shut down, most of the time it is due to poor management.

In the past I've work at some Drivers agency's, and have to fight for my pay check, and they never never never stand their words!!!

NO I won't shut-up. The more you try to shut me up, louder I'll talk!

Canadian, American, we all live on the same continent and we are Neighbors.

And if you read well, in my article I haven't talk about Union, that even if I'm proudly a pro-Union!

You must be one of those Union buster Drivers!

full of hot air, is all you are, regarding driver leasing companies.

whatever dude..enjoy your cookies...as long as they are made from permanent workers, and not temp help..??

go and be proud to be pro-union....

i don't need a union shop....but for some, that think the union is a saving grace from tyranny....go and enjoy.

can you direct me
to the Festivus Post?
Thank You

I can't fault union labor. Wages from a collective bargaining agreement paid for this house.

Well say. It is a fact that there's a huge difference between Union vs non-Union salary and working condition. If on the bottom of non-Union you lower Drvivers agency's, then you go even lower.

I don't see any positive points for going working for any agency's. And it should be regulated as it is in some country!
