Holland | Two Questions for any Holland Workers....

USF Holland is a unionized employer that is relatively near by. Since I want, among all other things, to be a member of a labor union, I am thinking of USF Holland as an eventual option. I am getting my CDL in a couple weeks, and I am making plans for getting to my goals. There are two really important questions I have that I think only Holland employees can answer:

1.) How does a person generally get started with USF Holland? Casual? Dockworker? Or do they take on permanent drivers?

2.) My back goes out sometimes. How much loading and unloading does a driver do working for USF Holland? If my back can't handle the stress, then I am out of luck with USF Holland.

Your help will be much appreciated.

we are a bottom feeder company, you don't even need a cdl to work here, they will train you into a textbook employee and are hiring anyone right off the street. Welcome aboard.I'm sure you have been told that this is a very stable and financialy sound company.

With a bad back, unless you are going to be wearing a tie, there are no jobs for you at Holland. Every single job requires a stable back. And if you want to sneak in, hoping that your back stays "in" until you're officially on board, you might want to be quiet about the back issue.

Speak for yourself 486. You do need a cdl to make a career at Holland as a teamster. Dock casuals down here are not dues paying members. Memphis is hiring 5 city drivers asap. hired 2 from Vitran/CT Friday. ME has hired 60 in the last 6-9 months. (dock, office, and road/city drivers) Nice advice Flash.

read my post again griz.we have 2 4hr casuals that didn't have a cdl and rode with city men on their own time then took the necessary test to obtain their cdl and were put on the board here.everything is not the same as you seem to think it is were your from.anyone who quits a full time job to come here has been blindsided as to what is going on at this dump. The equipment alone would be enough to scare a person. Look up our CSA score.and that's only the ones they catch.

well I'm just telling you this. We are hiring non union guys that have full time jobs and say their worst day at Holland is better than their best at Estes, Conway or CT to mention a few. These young guys love the opportunity to make overtime. I think sometimes us old teamster lose tract of what we have and only think about what we've lost. This is a new age in this industry and if we don't adapt to it we will be lost in it.

If this place is such a dump why are you still here?
That argument can go both ways.

If you want lower wages, why are you still there? Move along to something lower. Just sayin'.

The terminal where I worked WAS such a dump, that's why I'm not still there.

Well u moved alone since you didn't like the dump, but I'm sick of people hating Holland if your not happy with what they have move on to better employers with better equipment.

I understand your frustration, but I am sure you get along just great with your terminal manager and he looks out for your best interests, because your comments about quitting sound just like Holland's mind set.my resume is all polished up so no worry there.because this time around is sounding like they may have some difficulty brainwashing the majority that still work here.

Very easy to spot loyal company men or management. I don't believe there are many loyal teamster company men left after all this.

If I hated this place as much as 486 . I would leave, but i am sure he has looked around and and found nothing as good as he has it at this dump

No offense but, I could send you a pretty extensive list of other companies I've worked at over the past 25yrs that you definitely, wouldn't want to work at, if you think Holland is that bad...lol.
Every one of them BTW, trained guys off the dock.

In some unions, there are jobs that are not directly engaging the labor that the union represents. When you say "wearing a tie," does that mean management? Or are there hourly office folks who are members of the union?

There are very few jobs at YRCW that are Union, that don't require physical labor. Yes, a tie means Mgt.
