Just wondering how long it takes to do a bid at your terminal (service center)? I'm not real sure how many drivers we have right now but it is somewhere around 150. Don't want to go into details why I'm asking.

Assuming you are doing 50 a day, whomever is running the bid is disrupting the PM drivers sleep schedule. Having an 1800 start time driver calling in after 0800 is disrupting his normal sleep. Scheduled bids normally are but twice per year. The person ramrodding the bid should sacrifice himself and bid the lower drivers during their normal shift. IMHO. A bump bid is normally a lot faster and the sleep disruption is not a factor.

We have less than 40 total Road Drivers and it takes 3 weeks to bid. If someone is sick, on vacation or on work comp we have to wait. About the work comp deal, if someone is out they have 30 days to wait until a bump or the bid process.

Should be one day...but there is always some whiny ass near the top that has to contemplate for a day as to which awesome run he is going to take.

So, about 6 months? Just when you get comfortable and they find you "like it" they change/bid again. When you are established, and you wife has unpacked the last box, they do a change of operations. So, don't ever expect to sleep with both eyes closed...

I will not bid unless I'm looking at the board at the time of my bid. I don't trust management to be honest and tell me whats available

Critter, I have the utmost respect for you, but I must disagree. If every driver at a center thought like that, I could see a bid taking 3 to 4 weeks. It is a shame you distrust your management so much. The rules say that a center uses the seniority list and assigns each driver a block of time (usually 10 to 15 minutes) to call (in seniority order). If the driver fails to call during that time, he/she is placed on the extraboard, by seniority, until he does call. If he does call, he will be offered any remaining runs available.
Do not want to start a pissing contest (I would lose because my stream is not as strong as it once was), but I would have to tell you to either call at your designated time, or take the day off and arrive in person at the center to do your bidding. Driver availability would determine if it was an excused or unexcused absence.
Seniority is about the only thing that the head shed has not messed up, but you should not expect to undermine an entire bidding process simply because you are near the top. Must be a team player.

RC kind of sides with Critter. We used to do paper bids, put down in numerical order what you want. Mistakes were made. They admitted mistakes were made. "Gee, my bad, sucks to be you the next 12 months."
