Just got a del'v from ground, and it wasn't damaged, imagine that !
anyhow I picked his brain a bit he makes about 150k a year nets 90k (no benes )
seems a contractor in the nw just bought 10 tractors
and trying to hire drivers NOW
the guy doesn't know why, it does't make sense
OR DOES IT ?:moon2:

Ground limits it's contractors to 6 or 7 trucks incase of bankruptcy.. I would imagine if they are going that same direction they would follow the same rules..I worked as a package handler for ground out of school and all those guys were starving(contractors) so 90k net highly unlikely

Roadway Express started "RPS" Roadway Package Service to compete with UPS in 1985. In 1988 they bought Viking freight system and VFS. At that time Roadway told the Viking employees they could buy up to five trucks and go to work for RPS. One of the requirements were, we had to leave Viking and drive one of the five trucks. At the time I was busy going through a nasty divorce and giving half of my stuff away. TP

why does someone always want to steal my thunder, i already told you guys to get the big picture, 10
Sorry, lets get back on subject

Because despite all the anti-union rhetoric on this site...they know most of you guys would be calling up the local Teamster hall screaming bloody murder.

Your proving yourself an idiot once again. Why wouldnt we scream bloody murder if this scenario with Ground played out? You and your ignorant pipe dream......Most people on here would adapt or move on. Arent you the only one responsible for starting this rumor? The cats out of the bag my arse, two truckers talking shop rarely adds up to any great revelation.

Varnco is right and he and I have been trying to tell you guys the same thing for a couple of years.

Does anyone remember a couple of years ago when they said Ground would start pulling freight trailers on lanes that were out of balance? I do because I was there. I don't know how much success they've had with the program and I can't say that I ever saw such a combination; but I can say this....... they said they were going to do it... it's a fact, (and frankly, it makes good business sense).

Face it guys, FedEx loves the contractor model. The folks at Ground make money like they're printing it out back. Every quarter is double digit improvement in total revenue and profit. They own a non-union trucking company that they can do whatever they like with and no one can, or will, say a thing. There is little control over O/O's but there is a pile of control over contractors. And when your single largest expense is linehaul, what would you do? Get rid of the O/O's and company drivers and contract out the linehaul........everybody (nearly) wins. Bet money on it..........

Bet money on it? Based on some guy chatting with a delivery driver and two guys opinion on the internet? Anythings possible, but in 14 years I have never heard of this anywhere but here.

Good point...... but I can promise you the thing about Ground pulling our trailers is not a rumor nor is a supposition, it is a fact......it happened.

But you're right, Mr. Knocker (or Fart) as the case may be. It's all rumor at this point.

You can only have ten percent of a terminals fleet. Just happens sometimes it's 6 or 7 trucks. I know a guy who has 6 road units and 5 bread trucks 3 box trucks.
