Illinois passed a new law that went into effect January 1st. Throwing a cigarette butt out of your vehicle will result in a $1500 fine for the first offense. A third offense is a felony and will result in jail time.

Use your ashtrays (like you should have been doing all along) or better yet, quit smoking!

Got a link?

Illegal Immigrants can practice law, citizens tossing a smoke could face jail time. Liberalism is a mental disorder.

By 2016 it will be completely legal to rob a bank while whistling Dixie, stacking greasy BB's and refusing to show an ID during the process.

Smoking down under has just become a very costly habit, as from Jan 1st a packet of 20 smokes now cost $18.75, thank goodness I have up 24 yrs ago.

kiwiray.

well it's a good thing for me, that i only throw out cigar butts....

also a good thing, i know where the cops hide

also another good thing, i do not drive in "illy-noise"....

Before I quit years ago I used to throw them out Windows or as I walked down streets you flicked them. It started out as kids.... flicking them off each other or at things etc. You became good at it and formed the habit there too. I kinda miss it now talking about it. Anyhow, if I smoked I'd throw them out Windows still. Just being honest.

One more reason why smokers should consider turning to ecigs or personal vaporizers. No messy ashes, inhaling burned paper, or nasty cigarette butts to worry about.

OK made a temp law like that, several years ago we had a super dry and windy summer, whole fields were burning across hwy's and interstates, if it wasn't some cowpoke welding his fence, it was someone flinging a cig out the window, as I remember the penalties were stiff, with good reason, people were losing everything in those fires, the Troopers were stationed everywhere watching for it.

The same thing can be said about marijuana brownies.

Washington state has had a law prohibiting "throwing burning material" for as long as I can remember. Many people fail to realize the hazards of tossing a butt out the window, especially in the dry season. Once that smoldering ember starts a fire it can be difficult, if not impossible to put it out, and the costs can be astronomical.

Personally I feel it is irresponsible to toss a butt out the window. A person places everyone at risk for loss of property and life, and the costs of combating fires resulting from such carelessness are borne by all of us.

If you want to smoke that is your choice.

But making the choice to be careless and cause loss of property, natural resources, injury to others or even the death of someone you don't even know goes beyond ridiculous.

Is it so hard to use the ashtray?

I'm guessing that littering carries the same fines and that they have just added cig butts to the list. Isn't Airbakes going to be our State Trooper there? Or is he elsewhere? We can all get free passes off of him.
