XPO | Attn: Drivers. A question for you and maybe some answers.

Drivers tend to be independent and generally take pride in their work.

Current management has stripped our independence and many have lost pride in their job.

Many drivers are starting to view working for Con-way as an embarrassment.

Liked the comment but that eye is freaking me out driver..............lol

I see lots of post with drivers complaining about things and saying they are stupid without fully understanding them. Maybe they weren't explained to you, maybe you didn't listen or maybe you just didn't ask the right questions. I would like for you to ask me about any of the new programs or policies that you thing are stupid or pointless and maybe I can educate you why the company is doing it and what purpose it serves.

In my constant pursuit of enlightenment I ask the following questions;
1] What is the expected length of return {ROI}, for the cost of lean?
2} What are the expected cost savings of the camera utilization in the first year?
3} If the company is truly interested in fuel savings, why do they maintain 62MPH when they know it uses more fuel ?
4} Why has the CEOs pay increased 600% and driver pay increased 25% in the last 15 yrs ?

Why does the CEO get a 4 Million Dollar ICP Bonus on top of all his Other Bonus's when drivers are lucky to get 300 or 400 bucks ?? Who is really breaking their backs picking up and Delivering this Freight >???

They never said the match was coming back. Conway still contributes 3% whether you put any in or not. I challenge you to find another company that contributes more than 3%. Most require you to contribute 6% of your own to get their 3%.

I call bullcrap, they told us here in old CCX-land, when the operating ratio was something like 98% for 2 consecutive months, the match would be restored. 3% isn't crap, I would rather have the match than 3 measley percent. Remember when they suspended the pension and touted how much better a deal the 401k was going to be for us? We'll never be able to retire. Just another lie by the suits. They can do anything to move the numbers.

Mr white shirt I see your are trying to spin this about the 401. I sat in a meeting and ask a lot of questions about this They sure did. I believe it had something to do with that 95 percent ratio somehow can remember the exact numbers but say said we would get it back now please feel free again to correct me if I am wrong but,I don't think con-way puts anything in the 401 for the new hires. I'm sorry I just took Bruce M for his word.
The new hires now get a 2% contribution to the 401k.

With all due respect, if I have a question about a company policy, or the reason behind it, I'll go to my TM or HR or higher if I'm not satisfied with the answer. We do have an open door policy. I sure don't know everything, but after 15 years as a driver with this company, I have pretty much seen everything. And I don't put much faith in anonymous internet company advice.

That's good that you do that. Most people on this forum don't do that though. They just come on here and complain about something without understanding the reasoning behind it.

I am way too low in the hierarchy to know the answers to those. Try calling Greg at the GO for those answers.

Correct me if i'm wrong but the match was half of your contribution up to 6%. Which means you got at most a 3% match. You would rather have to contribute 6% of your pay for 3% of theirs instead of just getting the same 3%? If I am remembering the amount please let me know what it was.

That's correct..but with the match, we could get another 3%..that what he is saying.

I seriously doubt Greg could or would answer these questions, if they had the answers, I doubt they would be pursuing the path they are taking. So, what your saying is, you don't know why they do foolish things but you like to spin them in a positive direction. I'm sure mgmt., appreciates your blind following of all that they spew.

I don't try to spin them. I just try to understand them so I can know why they do them. Some of the things I see them doing right now have me dumbfounded and If you worked for me you would know what things I am talking about. Most things pertaining to lean though I understand and am really positive towards them.

Lean is designed to be a manufacturing program just as SIX Sigma was. For CON-WAY to invest the resources that they've invested in LEAN is ludicrous. They have very few avenues to recoup their investment. Unfortunately I believe MGNT is more interested in looking like there doing things, then actually doing anything.

We all have our opinions. I respect yours. Have a nice day

Did y'all catch that term "work FOR me" in his post? That right there is Con-way's biggest hurdle. I never worked FOR a supervisor. I worked WITH plenty, and there were even a couple I liked. I didn't even work FOR Con-way. The only people I work for is my family. I traded services for wages at Con-way. Call this splitting hairs if you like, but Con-way's biggest problem is too many bosses and not enough leaders.

The idea of the 401k was that the .50 on the dollar match up to 3% would be moved to a match of 6% and we would gain the general 3% quarterly contribution was in leiu of the pension. That was a super good deal;-)

We were also told that the match would be reinstated after we made 2 consecutive quarters with an o/r of (I believe) 95 or better.
