I have really wanted to do food service delivery for awhile now. However i can't seem to get my foot in the door anywhere,is there a code or secret to getting a job in this part of trucking.Oh my resume is great i think, lets see
Years of Experience driving truck:9 years total with 8 at same company.8 years for local delivery
Accidents:Zero none at all
Tickets:Zero none at all
Now i live in eastern NC and i have filled out to apps with pate dawson and can't get a call back.

So is Pate Dawson the only app you filled out? I work for Sysco, with a record like that you should be a shoe in, unless you don't have a class A, or your 60 yrs old, you gotta put in apps with all of them, in the grocery business, there is a reasonable rate of turnover, due to the nature of the job, most companies are always looking for a good person, but some can be full up, if there isn't a spot for you then thats that.

US foods gave me interview but that was it.Sysco isn't hiring from what i can tell on the website. But with sysco maybe buying out us foods i'm not really shocked. All my stuff has been class A and i'm only 31.

If you are in pretty good shape, one of the easiest kind of Grocery to get into is dairy. Also, look yourself up....I found out that there is a sex offender who had nearly the same name as me and I had to challenge it to get the criminal to quit coming up any time they used my name. I had wondered why I had such a tough time getting a job back in 2006. Now I know.

Keep trying. If you have any grocery warehouses in your area go apply. I drive for Associated Wholesale Grocers but have hauled milk for Kroger and Farm Fresh Dairy many years ago.See what is out there.

Well i know its almost a month later but HEY i got a job at pate dawson. Can't wait to for it!!I have to team starting out but the money is alot better than my current job.Is there any stuff i should buy to make the job easier??

I got the boots taken care of.But what about gloves??i need some links,do i need those little lights that strap around your head??

They either both eat broccoli, cheese, chili and hot wings or they both avoid them. Have to play fair.

I buy a lot of my work gear at Men's Workwear, Women's Workwear, Work Clothing Boots, coats, gloves etc. Some of it is pricey but the quality is excellent. Bought my last boots there about two years ago and they are still going strong.

Your boots have lasted so long because you freight haulers don't do anything...what walk from the tractor to the dock, stand there and watch the receiver or shipper unload you? I got my eye on you!

Also how does teams work when doing food??
I can't imagine what a team operation would be like. As far as I'm concerned there isn't enough room in a truck for me and anyone else (except maybe a hot redhead). I can imagine a few of the problem points. Who drives when? Who cops out and drives less? Who smokes and who doesn't? What kind of music does who listen to? Or talk show? When and where do we eat? How's the hygiene? Who talks too much about what garbage? Just a few to start with.

Oh no, amigo, I am one hard working man. Delivering generators out the wazoo and more. Just ask my lady, she's knows I work hard. :hysterical:

Well i'm back and so far i like it.Pay is been pretty good so far i really can't complain about that.I don't like being on the extra board thats for sure. Its taking me a little while to get used to having a hand truck and stacking stuff up on it.All the trucks are new and are auto which is nice after moving cases around all day. There was a pay issue when i started but its now been fixed cause all the drivers stuck together and get it back right.Team with is pretty much one guys sleep going out, work together during the day to get it done, guy that sleeps going out drives back in.

The whole team thing would drive me nuts, mostly because I can't stand how anybody else drives. I give a lot of road tests, and get a lot of trainees. In the last few years, I have had exactly one that impressed me.

Extra board is tough. As soon as I could, I took a bid switching trailers. The pay sucked, but at least it was a regular schedule.

Thats what Moneyman01 did over at MB, they still worked him 70 hrs 6 days a week. They don't hold our spotter to HOS regs because they consider him whse, even though he is a driver, he kills it, but he works over 70 hrs some weeks, thats alot of friggin hrs in a spotter, I do about 6 hrs a night and thats plenty for me.

Our guys are still trans. They cover routes when needed, or if they want some extra work. I would sometimes run myself out of hours intentionally, so I didn't have to do anythng stupid. We could work all we wanted, as long as it wasn't driving.

We were really shorthanded a few years ago, and hired temps to switch so we could cover routes. I got a little p!ssed off, because I took the bid for a regular schedule. I told them I would work my regular days, and if they wanted anything else they could ask nicely.

I did some crazy stuff in that year and a half, to keep customers happy. Strangely, I think it was appreciated then. Management team has changed a lot since.

Well i am still at pate dawson and its going pretty good still.I still hate being on the extra board but i did manage to get a thursday and friday shuttle run pulling doubles.Had the thing on my CDL for 9 years and it finally paid off.I so ready when the re bids come around in 8 months.
