ABF | New Allegations at 050

if it can go it goes and not it parks.
I am having trouble figuring out where you stand here. First you tell us city drivers we're babies if we can't drive our trucks straight down a secondary road and that if we come to work don't cry about the conditions and work the day out. Now...all you have to do is drive straight down an interstate highway except for a mile or two off the exit to get to a terminal and you're telling us that if you can't do that you park it. If you can't finish your trip why did you even go to work anyway? Just call in and tell them you can't get out of your driveway and they'll put a real man on the job, one who can get 'er done.

some of us drive through multiple states and multiple highways and weather changes throughout an eleven to fourteen hour span.. weather systems develop and begin dumping snow and ice at times during trips, not just during daytime hours when city drivers work. In the time I have worked at ABF I have shut down 2 times and Driven in Horrible conditions numerous times at slow safe speeds, in ice, snow and in tornado activity, etc. Funny you should challenge me on this tonight.. As we are getting dumped on today.. I took the liberty to research your complaints and on your days in question here is what I discovered for the record:

The Governor did not "shut down the State" "shut down the city" "shut down the county"!! Nor was a state of emergency declared!!

The Mayor did Not do any of the above as well!!

An Emergency Management Plan did go into effect which happens during severe weather!! It was highly advised to not travel by both, employers were highly encouraged to shut down and have employees work from home! Motorists were told to stay off the road so crews could clear roads! According to the Attorney Generals Office, there are only a few instances where motorists or workers cannot be on roads as ordered by the Law.. A snowstorm is not included.. The closest would be an evacuation order.. So your efforts are wrong.. But as I stated before Call off or go in and work at a crawl, return to yard, unsafe, etc...... You do have protections, use them!!! but don't expect to be paid and not perform your job if you show up!!! that's all I am saying,, you don't have to attack me and what I do on the road.. Like I said,, my point was simple,,, If you showed up,, what did you expect? to be sent home with pay? or sit for 8 hours? or deliver freight which is your job? I don't know what you set out to accomplish that day.. I assume each of us is a man and if not safe or whatever, tell the man, I am not coming in.. If he writes a letter, Tell him to stick it up his ass!! Are you a Teamster or not?

I'm a Teamster alright and if you checked on road conditions in my area you goofed because I'm not in an area where a snow emergency was alleged. But if one was called I think I'd get off of the roads. Sometimes when they're not called I get off the roads as well. See, when the snow starts to accumulate here people go home and there is nobody to deliver freight to. I know, that's my fault too what can I say? I have no objection to moving around at whatever pace traffic will permit for the most part but I still want to know if you've ever been following a line of creeping cars down a grade and watch your tach drop 100 or more RPMs? Do you know what that means?

OOOO BTW we get forecast for 1"-3" of snow and get 8"-12". You are not the only one in the world who encounters unanticipated conditions. I recall one time we had sub freezing temps for days and it snowed. It warmed up for about 15 minutes, enough to turn that snow to rain then the temps plummeted again. Do you know what that does?

I am not sure how you researched the facts about the snow emergency but here is a link:

WTHR winter storm blog - 13 WTHR Indianapolis

To WTHR 13 weather from the storm, that was given to me by their weather office. If you read down to around 9:44 (about 3/4 of the way down) it says "Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard has increased the city's travel advisory to the warning level. All non-emergency traffic is directed off the streets, except for residents seeking shelter."
Now I think that is rather clear! It doesn't say freight companies excluded. The Mayor and the Governor were on TV several times telling people to stay home.
And here is the definition of Warning:
Definitions of travel status

Warning: The highest level of local travel advisory means that travel may be restricted to emergency management workers only. During a "warning" local travel advisory, individuals are directed to:

refrain from all travel;
comply with necessary emergency measures;
cooperate with public officials and disaster services forces in executing emergency operations plans; and
obey and comply with the lawful directions of properly identified officers.

Now I don't know what you and Roy looked up or who you talked to but this is on their own pages. And Hendricks County where 319 is located was under that emergency for a day longer.

I have not said a word about anyone trying to get something for nothing, the drivers that have spoken to me and were part of the letters wanted the UNA taken off their records for that day because they did NOT come in. In my opinion the drivers that showed up and were trying to get something for nothing should have just been put on the dock to break freight or clean. (God knows 050 needs it)

As far as our union standing up for us, well when a driver pointed out about the UNA days at our last meeting, to our President the great Danny Barton he was told by the President "Have you ever heard of someone getting fired for UNA" So they really don't care because we are just bothering them.

Here is another link to WTHR 13 that was given to me by their weather department about the storm and the warnings by officials.

you don't have to attack me and what I do on the road..
You attacked the city drivers for what we do in the city, what did you expect? I don't understand why you expend so much effort trying to prove you're right on this when you're not. And based on what driver050319 posted it doesn't look like you did your research...or maybe you did research my area.

Hey what about:
cooperate with public officials and disaster services forces in executing emergency operations plans; and
obey and comply with the lawful directions of properly identified officers.

That's what they did when they were on TV and said "STAY HOME UNLESS IT IS AN EMERGENCY"
I believe the Mayor and Governor are properly identified officials

Just admit you are wrong on this you were NOT even here.

Or you are just a company guy who believes they do no wrong.

I talked to 13 other 003 and 034 and 064 drivers in past few hours, all of which were either called or told to shut down in past 24 hours by ABF dispatchers.. This must be a thing against Indy workers by its TM and by Ft Smith to lie and manipulate. BTW the same warnings were in KC yesterday, no issues!!! No letters to Ft Smith, To DOT... !0 Inches and in cases more and no issues no reports of people in Gyms, just a snowstorm crippling things.. Today business is slowly retuning to normal and roads are still jacked up.. Drivers are driving slower and cautious!! but working for a fair days work and fair days pay!!

Well thank you for proving the point that has been made. THE OPS MANAGER IN INDY HAS MANIPULATED THE FACTS TO THE FORT. That is what we have said all along!!!!! That other terminals in the situation closed down but NOT our great leader here in INDY.
There was a problem in the other areas and their TM closed for SAFETY that didn't happen here. WHAT DON"T YOU GET?
Hey we had 7.5 inches last night, UE closed (not our OPS manager choice) we were open today and moved SLOW..

Not the Ops mgr, The mayor, the governor, Roy, Safety,, its everyones fault!! But you all never answered the question,, what did you expect, to show and get paid for nothing?

What have you missed I DIDN"T GO IN I JUST WANTED THE UNA TAKEN OFF. We all do!!!! that couldn't make it to work since WE followed the requests/orders of the Mayor and Governor.

If you had a sick day they cant write you a letter! If not, they can and because its only a situation of advisement they are correct. Just take the letter and move on.

Just let it go. We have had these same issues at our barn for years, the level 2s and 3s and the unas. We tried like hell to get rid of our om also but you have to realize that the fort will back them all the way. Starting with kemp and now slagle its all about high.wages and more production. Management cant stand teamsters and will intimidate and harrass them to achieve their goals. The old blood vps at the fort are gone and we are left with these young smartass know it alls where the bottom line is the only answer. Fact of life. I used to work out of 135 when.it was.one of the stronger locals but most locals now are bowing to abf. Fact of life. Good luck and dont go it alone.....power in numbers

Best thing to do is go to work. Make sure you bring warm clothes & plenty of food. Go out to your first stop and make sure you get stuck. Sit there & wait for them to come and get you. Once they realize thery are paying & getting no production, maybe they will wake up!
