I wonder why we dont have any new 53 footers. Ive never seen an actual UPS Freight 53 footer on the LTL side. We have the 53 series Overnites, and the Xtra lease vans.

It is not a rumor It is confirmed, all brown, Didn't hear anything about new uniforms.

I just got new uniforms two weeks ago and they are the same color as they have always been. I hope they arent going to be sending me more new uniforms soon, just a waste of money again.

Start getting everything in Brown? Makes sense, that way when they shut us down they can just take the equipment to their place and "Keep on Truckin"! I heard that the UPS Freight decals on the trailers are going to be replaced with Magnets. Easier to remove because it is all about IMAGE!!!!!! The old slogan "Our people make the difference" has been replaced by "This f#$%^*g place" It's true I hear it everyday! Hello Alex! What percentage of our loads are being moved with contract transportation? And what is an acceptable % of loads?

By who and where did it get confirmed? What message board...:hysterical:

LTL companies have been pulling twin 28 foot pups for many years.
Do the math Diesel Smoke....2 x 28=56,if the LtL's are loading 56 feet of freight to run their line haul, what would be the need for 53 foot van?
48 feet vans have been used around a lot of city routes which have narrow streets, and old docks that were built back in the 40 foot long by 96 wide were the standard LTL trailer size.
So I have to ask you, where would any 53 foot dry vans be practical in UPS Freight's fleet?

I know I came up from the 60's, through the years of LTL when the longest dry van trailers were only 40 feet, and 96 wide, then it was 42 feet x96,next came the 45's.
Till the companies started introducing the 48 foot long,102" wide monster Rail Road Box Car type Trailers that were only allowed by most states to run on the interstates.
As money talks, the LTL companies started sneaking them into the cities, which now are pretty much the standard dry van Trailers
Then came the pups which started out as 20 footers 96"wide,after a few years they were 28 foot x102" wide.

You all know I'm retired as a former UPS Freight city driver safety trainer.
If I were you Diesel Smoke if you are a city driver I'd keep my yap shut about adding 53's to the fleet, they are crashes looking for a place to happen!
However if you are a line haul driver, your city driving co-workers will really become your enemies, and I know you wouldn't want that.

I can think of 8 of our customers off the bat who will only accept 53 footers. These are drop and hook customers. Why keep renting these trailers and not buy some of our own? And I dont know anybody that hates pulling a 53 footer like you are saying. Its not a big deal. You drove for like 75 years and you arent comfortable in a 53 footer? Really?

Yes I drove city routes for just over 45 years, and some places I had to back the 48'x102's were a nightmare, as they were originally built for the older 40'x96 wide vans.
Also jumping curbs on narrow streets with the trailers rocking up and shifting the freight were not ideal working conditions.

You may have customers that only desire 53 foot vans, but I say customers like that are very rare, unless they mostly deal with truckload carriers which generaly use 53's these days.

Sorry if I have ruffled your features on this topic Diesel Smoke, but then again I'm from the old school and it was hard to deal with the change from 45's to 48's.
I am happy I don't have to pull 53's.

That's ok AP. They don't listen to drivers anyway.:biglaugh:

if this is true r they going to paint all the old trucks instead of waiting for a new truck because i will be waiting for years to get a painted truck......

I have said this before, however I don't mind posting this again.

UPS is a very intelligent globally operated company.
Why would they even think about rebranding any of the old equipment?
When they can just have the equipment manufacturers do it for them, after they have signed agreements, and before UPS receives the new stuff.

I'm sure UPS hasn't got what they currently have, by throwing their money where their money isn't going to make them any money back.

Now I'm not sure how true this is,but I heard UPS has never been concerned about the oil crisis.
They deal in oil futures on the stock market, they purchase most of their fuel in bulk and get a better price,in some terminals they have their own storage tanks.
On top of that they are allowed to charge fuel sir-charge on every bill.
I'd say they are pretty smart cookies, that they are actually making out pretty good no matter where the price of oil goes.

Now if just this one aspect of UPS's operation is true,do any of you really believe that UPS would continue to rebrand any more of the old Overnite, and Motor Cargo junk?
I for one think not!

Yes, I completely agree they aren't going to brand anymore older equipment. They didn't make record profits in this economy from being stupid. We have more work rules but I really don't think they are any harder to work for than Overnite. Just do your job has always been my motto. We are making more and more is expected. You know AP I think it's the drivers are not trained like they use to be. They work and probably hard. But not smart. They need to bring some of the old peddlers back to teach them.

Yes I agree with you Skeeter.
Anyone who makes LTL trucking their career,it is better to use their brain more so then their backs.
Think and work smart and trucking will make you a good living, and when you have your time in you will still be in good shape to enjoy the retirement years.
However if you are a hard headed individual, you may not last very long.

..how `bout that one stack Mack with a shack in the back...you clear to the line east bound, gouge on it......woopwoop.........
