When your put out of service until further notice does that mean your fired ?

I refused to do a pickup today when i got back to the terminal i was put out of service?

Now i have to call my manager in the morning ....:438:

not with ct anymore (thank God) but I would definitely say get your pen ready sounds like your heading for unemployment office.

why did they put you out of service? that's an odd move unless you just said I'm not doing it because you just were butting heads taking a stand /putting your foot down... not because of a limited access issue, unsafe( icy) or 200 miles from your delivery area. or maybe just a straight F U I'm not doing it It's getting late and I want to go home? that I could see getting put OOS, I guess it all depends on why the p/up was refused..... maybe you can elaborate.

Well termination it is! Review board if i elect to rebuttal i'm vitran i have no chance So why bother Good luck to all GOD SPEED !

Never heard of that. My guess is there was a lot more to the story.

I've declined pickups plenty of times. As long as it's a valid reason, no harm no foul.

I've even butted heads with bad dispatchers, and as long as you remain professional and can back up your stance, your fine.

Be honest here. Were you really that disappointed? Did you expect anything less? Didn't you at least have a little smile on your face when you walked out that door? Good luck with your job hunt. On to a brighter and better future.

well now being terminated for refusal does not help your cause, do you know HOW HARD IT IS TO GET FIRED from central????? refusal is a sure shot at termination and most likely will stick to you kind of like a bad accident.... unfortunately this man did not help himself in this matter........................

I wouldn't worry about getting fired from Central as far as getting another job goes. Most of the terminal management of legitimate companies understand what Central is all about. They are not stupid. They read the papers, the internet, and hear the horror stories too. Central HAS the worst reputation of all LTL carriers. You will actually have a harder time getting a job BECAUSE YOU WORKED AT CENTRAL than because you got fired! How do I know....????? TRUST ME. I've NEVER lied to you. All you need to do is explain that you are a professional driver and that you could not stomach Central's complete lack of professionalism and disregard for the law. Any legitimate company will take the word of a professional driver with a clean safety record over a manager from Central.

Again, how do I know.....? ;-)

If you are a GOOD driver, you have done yourself a favor by getting out of there quickly. Sure, it would have been more convenient if you chose the timing, but getting out of there will do nothing but advance your career. YOU WILL BE FINE. Be honest with your potential employer about who your previous employer was. Explain why you refused the pickup. Let them review your record. Be professional. YOU WILL BE FINE.

For all the other Vitran drivers who have not heeded my advice yet, I sincerely hope you're paying attention.

So far realtree has never stated his reason for the refusal, so we're just second guessing. No, I never will know how hard it is to get fired from CT as I left on my own 6 weeks ago.
As far as not helping himself or sticking with him, until he posts an explanation for the refusal, only 2 people know the full story. For now, it's all water under the damn.

The only information an employer may give on a former employee is: Hire date, ending date, job title at the time of separation, and if the separation was due to a DOT controlled substance issue. Any further information by a former employer is actionable in court.

Definitely agree with JK, regardless of the reason for the termination. The problem becomes when you do an online application and are truthful about ever being fired, it will throw a red flag and probably stop you from getting a job with that company. So, you lie on your application 1st and try to explain it later? CT does not give up background information quickly, so you still may have a chance.

I think they can disclose whether or not you are eligible for rehire.

So you mean to tell us that CT dispatch in Michigan could not or would not help you to make that pickup and the directions on the handheld were useless? I guess I would have sent an email and then sat right where I was for a while and wait for dispatch to figure out what they would want me to do. I am sure you probably did that as well. Just saying...

I would have sent Dispatch an email and told them I was lost and couldn't find it. And let them make the decision on what to do......They already knew he was struggling having only made 5 del. in 8 hrs. You can't hit refuse and just head in without approval....I can understand his frustration but that's a dispatch call, not his. Having said that they probably were gunning for him and if it hadn't been that they would have found something else. Trust me he's better off and if his CDL is good he can find something much better.

Accept everything, pick-up what you cannot what you want too.. Or go to the titty bar and chill until you're ready to roll back to the yard.

your dolphin has directions??? usually a ph no# attached to the pick up, just wondering exactly???? where were you in N.E. Pa when you were sent that pick up due to some areas have bad reception????????? or maybe your full of defecation????????
