I was just reading the gov't now requires that you let the state Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) know two things: Whether you operate interstate or intrastate and whether you are required to carry a Medical Examiner Certificate, commonly referred to as a Fed Med Card. "Those who have not yet complied will lose their CDLs.”

If you live in Wisconsin, ya better get humpin.:438:

Little late there howler. This notice has been out for over a year. Take your med card to the dmv, indicate inter/intrastate, they take money from you, give you a new license indicating the med card status. No longer have to hump the physical card around.

I like the idea of not having to keep up with the medical card. I'm out in the sticks, we're 10 years behind everyone else jk

I may or may not be wrong but, i am pretty sure this was extended. YES you must register your med card at your state DMV but you must continue to carry your card with you. I will get back to yall on Monday.

Take card to DPS in Texas and they integrate the expiration dates in your license and you must keep it up to date. When you get stopped the troopers know if your card is current...Just like they know you have a concealed handgun permit.

My DOT physical was due shortly after I retired. I got a letter from TXDPS telling me I had to show proof of current physical. I didn't want to pay for one myself, so I turned in my CDL.

Yep...you can either give it up or you lose it in Texas if your medical card expires.....No need to carry a card in Texas anymore because its in your license just like a haz-mat endorsement...And what is really screwed up about it is if your medical card expires you have to go through the whole process of getting your CDL back....Just like a rookie which includes a driving test and all.

FMCSA Announces One-Year Extension of Paper Medical Certificate Requirement for Commercial Bus and Truck Drivers

The Federal Motor Carrier Administration (FMCSA) today announced that it is extending by one year, until Jan. 30, 2015, a requirement that interstate commercial driver’s license (CDL) holders retain paper copies of their medical examiner’s certificate and continue to make the document available for review upon request at the roadside by federal and state commercial motor vehicle inspectors. In Dec. 2008, FMCSA issued a Final Rule modernizing, streamlining, and simplifying recordkeeping obligations for drivers, carriers and state governments by requiring that a driver’s medical certification record be merged with state-issued CDLs. States received support from FMCSA to implement the necessary IT system upgrades and merge the records into one, online database – the Commercial Driver’s License Information System (CDLIS). FMCSA announced the one-year extension today to protect commercial drivers from being cited for violations because some states are not yet in full compliance with the new system.
