No leadership .

Nawwww, he wants it done the cheap way by a company that pays lower wages to illegals who can't communicate very well in English. That's why the installer, worker and or delivery man has to hand the customer his cell phone so customer can explain his concerns and or comments to his boss..

All freight companies are currently hiring, though a few are having a hard time filling their hiring needs(according to their forums). What companies are hiring illegals in the freight industry??

The illegal comment was in response to his pro union neighbor supposedly hiring a non union electrician......

To answer your question, no I don't know of any freight companies that are or ever have hired illegals. I do know that a few years back Estes, in S. Plainfield NJ, was having a hard time finding qualified drivers. They had to settle for green card legal immigrants who couldn't get the hazmat endorsement.

all companies are hiring...thats a known fact,...the unionization of a company can in fact hurt business with customers

Here's the fact.Customers don't give a damn if you're union or non-union.They go to whoever is offering the lowest rate. What they do worry about is a trucking company that looks like it might go bankrupt from mismanagement.

And you got your fact from where? What company do you know of that was, in fact, hurt by being unionized? There are many reasons like cost service and claims that can hurt a company. It is my understanding that New Penn and ABF are busting at the seams with business in spite of the fact they are unionized. That in itself is very unusual for this time of year.

you can pull the wonderful list of UNION trucking companies that went out of business and analyze the list, it becomes a brick wall between the company and union employees, and then another wall between customers

mind you not all the union companies went out of business because of the Unions...but it doesnt help creating the division within the company...

note the numerous times Teamster Forever has cited examples where he told people to shove it because the union has his back...what a great mentality

you start giving people that idea and they say well hey this isnt safe or this cuts into my lunch or i cant be expected to go the extra mile in my job...

was always a poor message they sent to me when i was union...

my opinion

Thanks for your opinion warble. I respect your opinion even though we disagree. But I was more interested in what the source is of your "the unionization of a company can in fact hurt business with customers"

I'm not familiar with the Teamster Forever comments you refer to. But have you ever worked with a half witted supervisor who had a "Napoleonic" complex? You know the type of little man who lets his supervisory position go to his head and acts like a dictator. The kind of guy who cares more about his ego than the best interests of the company.

Maybe that's where the supervisor needs to be told to shove it. Maybe that's where Teamster Forever was lucky to have a union contract to back him up.

Crystal, my comments all referred to safety issues that I deemed unsafe not only for myself but also the public. Werble don't make statements that aren't true regarding me. The government, thanks to President Carter, put most if not all of the union carriers out of business thanks to deregulation. Every company was making money because they were regulated with the same rates throughout the entire country. Employees were well paid, all making the same rate across the board. If it wasn't broke, why fix it!! Get the facts straight before you open a thread with false information. The trucking industry was much safer before deregulation. You never read about a union carrier being involved in any motor vehicle issues. That's because the union cared but more importantly the companies cared about their employees and their public opinions.

Deregulation, corporate greed, and mismanagement were the major causes of the downfall of the unionized trucking industry. The YRC situation is now the big target of anti union attacks. But it's not because the union workers that put YRC in a hole. It's because of the major acquisitions made with borrowed money. Roadway, New Penn, and Holland were all well run money making union carriers before Zollars went on a buying spree. He even over paid $500 million for the purchase of USF.

Don't blame the unions for YRC's debt.

I agree Crystal. Roadway,New Penn and Holland were making money even when the economy was on a downturn. Yellow had this brainstorm to become the industry guru. Buyouts with borrowed money proved to be a wrong choice. Instead of sharing the industry with each other and going into specialized services like New Century they became greedy, hence the position they are in today....no fault of the unions.Had they modeled their standards to those who made money YRC would have been the staple for all to look up to not the embarrassment of what NOT to do. Shifting the blame to the unions is not the answer. Streamlining terminals and management should be the answer.

Between you and I we have roughly 75 years union experience to talk about, unlike those who are fed false data by their non union counterparts.

I try to stay out of non union forums unless they post attacks against the union. I only joined in the discussion here at NCT because of the card signing and vote. I knew a few Jevic drivers back in the day. They were good hard working peddle men who liked their 70 hours a week straight time pay. They felt the boss treated them well and they didn't need the union.

It appears that things have changed since then and I wish all the NCT workers well regardless of the NLRB ruling.

Customers heard a union may be infecting New Century hence the defections. Most customers do not want to conduct business with union companies. Heck my neighbor, a huge union supporter, just used a non union electrical contractor.
I guess he doesn't want to pay for some lazy slob to work in his house OR he wants the job done right, the first time......
Either way he shops non union......
Let meet tell you something Puff the Mighty Moron, your theory regarding companies not wanting to use Union Carriers is BS! Customers look for the cheapest way to ship they don't care if they are union or non union! Ask someone in Nct management why we lost loads of freight out of Colavita Why our rates were too high! We also lost thousands of warehouse dollars by telling them we couldn't warehouse for them anymore ! How about Loreal do you know how much freight we lost there? The reason our rates were too high! So don't go blaming the Union for management mistakes!

New Century has become so money greedy since Jeffries took over. A large national account such as Colavita should be monitored daily just as Harry was doing. There were days I went into their Linden facility 2 or 3 times a day with empties just to load up the LTL, not counting the truckloads. The freight is still there, but the TLC that New Century use to provide is gone. That account NEVER was delivered by cartage, regardless what the destination. I built up an account in Woodridge to a point where we were the only carrier there, servicing the entire east coast. Appointments were always met because New Century drivers delivered. They lost it all. Foodgrade with premium rates because of cartage down south. Same issue with an account in Teterboro. We had a lock on it all....but the new management lost it all!!!

We were getting 100 loads a month out of Colavita! Plus the Warehouse loads out of our warehouse in Willingboro! I believe I know that account. In Woodridge. If it's got to do with rawhide animal products. We lost out there to because of poor management. !

How can his so called neighbor be "a huge union supporter" if he actually "shops non union"? It sounds like another Puff fairy tale.

I was reading some of his old posts and he claimed he was suing the Teamsters because they stole his pension. I find it odd that there isn't any record of a lawsuit against his pension fund.

ANother saleman let go friday.....was told the companys going in a different direction. they want logisitcs and inside sales. less overhead and less costly.

This guy obviously never delivered to union and non union electricians. I have done both on many occasions and can tell you that I can pretty much tell if it's a union shop or not right off the bat. The union guys come out with knowledge, direction and the right equipment to get the job done. The nons come out lacking all three.
