Yellow | Hours of Service

According to the district safety guy, because the terminal at which I work is a 5 day operation, we automatically reset over the weekend, regardless of the number of hours we work.

Doesn't make sense to me either, but all bets are off regarding HOS if you do not hit the street. Once driving all of the rules must be followed.

That would be the 34 hr reset, legal requirement met, so I would have to assume that IBT/Company stance of not using it only applies to Road Drivers?

Are they limiting all to 60 hrs then?
Could be that it's a tad easier with a split board rather then a combo board to do so.

I used to be at YRC in the city. At the time we had to run a recap card to keep track of hours and couldn't go over 60. I'm at Holland now and over 60 is fine as long as you are off the street prior to going over. How is this legal? When I was on an e-log we could be on duty past 14 if unloading at a customer but the time still came off the 70 for the week.I posted over on the holland thread but saw many more viewing here.

i currently work for holland and having the same issues you are having! when i was at roadway/yrc if you had a p&d bid you did not work over 60hrs. if you had a dock only bid and never hit the street you could basically work all you wanted! now holland works out of one end of the terminal and yrc works out of the other end and both are eol terminals and the yrc guy,s still max out and do not work after 60hrs. but on the other end at holland we work more than 60. i do not like it !!! but you would think that at some point with the amount of over time it would be cheaper to hire some more guy's even having to pay the bennies!? and the customers would be a little happier!! they are taking apps but yrc has such a bad reputation that not many takers! and the people that do apply from what i understand do not meet their criteria or have bad driving records so human resources shoots them down! so it is kind of like the movie ground hog day! stuck in the same **** over and over!!

i do not mind the work!! but i have two young daughters at home!! i am missing a lot of time with them!!! believe me i know i am not the only one in this situation!!! i go to work before they wake up for school and get home in the evening they have home work and go to bed so i really do not get to spend a lot of time with them during the week. then on week ends you are so busy trying to play catch up house work ,yard, work on a vehicle etc. that there is very little quality time and they are growing up fast!!!! i am thinking this is not the way to do it!!! i would be happier personaly with between 40to 50 hours! not crying just sayin! to each his own i know a couple of guy's that if they could would bring a cot and put it in the break room and work all they could! ok it is time to go play with the kids!! warm weather here for a change today! go ride some bikes!

Yeah, I definitely understand where you are coming from. When we expanded my barn at Con-Way a few years ago, we were all working 60-70 hours a week (we run on the 70 hours / 8 days clock). It does get old.

Are you guys in the same local as Yrc? Contact the hall to see what they say about resetting. If you are on a 60 in 7 then you would eventually have to take a day off during the week to let your hrs catch up.

Man grow a pair. Tell them you're fatigued and go home .

That will go over well with the new attendance policy!!!! A lot of guys want all the hours they can get but it's funny that they don't bid the clean up shifts. They stay when they want to so the company counts on their man power but when it's too cold or friday it's your on your own.

HOS regulations basically only have to do with driving. You can work 100 hours a week, as long as you don't drive again until you come into compliance.

As long as you're not driving, you can work as many hours over 60 as you want....

True! But- it still counts in your total hours worked so you legally can't drive until back in compliance. Same for a second job too, as many do. Don't remember the exact # but somewhere around FMSCA 392.5 or 395.2? I had to look it up once. You can work. Unlimited hours but not drive until all those come off in compliance.

Many Locals also have 60 hour agreements so all get to work and top guys can't hog it all...

You are allowed a16hr day if you leave the state and to return to your domicile and then 14 hr days with a 34 hr reset inbetween. My father works in food distribution and there drivers are always getting stuck on lay overs due to the nature of the beast? Hope this helps? BSAFE

16 hrs only once in a seven day period
